When am I going to learn? Just was at a concert and filmed it with my Z-1. I caught the sound off the board via my wireless transmitter. Although it was for personal usage, I was NOT wearing my headphones! I monitored my signal from the board, the transmitter and finally from my viewfinder. Al LOOKED well but when I captured my tapes, I had obvious problems. It seemed the mixer (I was not running it) had a low threshold on the compression limiter. About half of my content is unusable due to my audio getting cut everytime it peaked above the threshohld. Stupid! Never again! Sily thing was I had my in ear monitors with me. I have learned my lesson.
ALWAYS listen through the camera!

Mine was just before Christmas... I was shooting a fundraising video and was getting some B-Roll in a cafeteria setting. I had been shooting interviews earlier, didn't use headphones, and then when I captured the footage I found there was no sound. I hadn't changed back to the on camera mic! Thankfully it was B-Roll I was shooting and the project could survive without that audio.

Here's to monitoring the audio...[raises glass]

Yes, and, BTW, always, always, always listen.
