The latest thing seems to be filters in a "silver" finish to compliment the silver look of a lot of digital cams and camcorders. Now won't that look pretty on the VX2k?

I've just had a look at a Hama UV which is multi coated and sure needs to be. Imagine screwing that to the front of your camera and going out into the sunlight. The bright silver finish of the filter's forward facing thread happily reflects any light that falls on it. What dunce-kopf thought of that one, hey?

Yes, they will indeed produce flare (http://www.dvinfo.net/articles/optics/lensdefects.php) and should be avoided at all cost. Several lens manufactures, most notably Olympus, had a highly polished silver lip to their lenses that caused flair. They finally replaced it with a matte black after several years. You can tell the old Olympus (Zuiko) lenses from their more modern ones that way.

It's a nice idea that silber bits on your lens can give your films more flair Jeff, but it's much more likely it'll give you flare. :-)
