Ok I want to stick with my vegas guys so Im posting that in here. Im just curious what do you guys do to make your DVD stand out. Our DVD is in the works with Bestbuy so we need it to be perfect. What colors can we use that grab attention or what else should we do? This is a Racing DVD.

Go out to Best Buy and do some homework by browsing the DVD display racks.
What covers catch your attention?
Why did they do it? Was it the colour, the image, the text?
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so there's nothing wrong with getting ideas from what others have done.
Just make sure that it's not a duplicate of something else (like Cars, for instance) or you could be looking at copyright infringement.

If you've really got a distribution deal that includes Best Buy, I'd *highly* recommend you hire a graphics designer. You make videos, not graphic design. Excel at what you do, and hire someone else ot excel at what they do. Give them elements of your project, and clearly describe what you want in terms of emotion and stick-out-ishness on a shelf.
They'll present you with several options. Were I you, I'd take those options to the distributor. Get their opinion too, since they're selling the project for you.

What DSE says. I designed what I thought was a cool cover for my documentary. The distributors said, "Why don't you let OUR guy take a crack at it." They did. The cover was lightyears beyond what I imagined, and much better. I make movies, I'm NOT a graphics artist.
