Edwin Gailits July 2nd, 2008, 08:47 PM I'm looking for a shooter in the NY City area with experience using the Sony EX1. I've been working on a self-funded doc on dance for the last year and I plan to be in NYC for 3 days of shooting July 17-20, mostly late nights. I have a some $$ to offer but not pockets full. I hope to bring an EX1 with me but if you had your own that would be great.
Let me know if interested and I'll fill you in on more details.

Theodore McNeil July 5th, 2008, 07:01 PM The VA based casting/production company Team Jabberwocky has posted over a hundred aspiring actors auditions online. They also posted the contact details for the actors, so you don't have to pay to get in touch with them.
Even if you're not looking for actors right now, you can get bit of an insight into the auditioning process.

Full disclosure: My girlfriend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdTya7YfMPc) was one of the auditions, otherwise I have no connection to this.
Steve Crow July 7th, 2008, 09:21 AM Hi,
I'm looking to hire someone for a few hours to provide a bit of hands-on equipment setup and training. Of course I am willing to pay a reasonable fee. Here are the details:
I recently purchased a Steadicam Merlin and need someone who has at least a couple years experience with this neat production tool to show me how to correctly balance and setup my Merlin for my two videocameras....the first is a 1.2 lbs Canon Optura 50, the second is a Panasonic AG-HVX200 weighing in around 7lbs with a microphone and long duration battery attached.
I think I have the setup in the ballpark but I have yet to get it actually correct. Knowing how a fully balanced video camera feels in my hand would be a major leg up.
I have read the manual and watched the DVD however I would like someone who can:
1) set up the Merlin for me for both cameras so that they are dynamically balanced and result in that steady, "floating" video we all buy this tool to achieve.
2) Provide some very basic operator guidance (hand position, walking with the Merlin etc)
I'll be taking notes and some digital pictures so that I can recreate the setup. After all, if I can't do it myself eventually then that's a real problem
I figure around 2 hours work. I am located in Palo Alto, CA.
Steve
Steve Crow July 7th, 2008, 08:36 PM I am working on a proposal for a 2 camera video production ultimately to be viewed on the Web. Locations would be in the Peninsula/Silicon Valley area (say Redwood City down to San Jose) I am located in Palo Alto.
Here's the deal - I need to add at least one LOCALLY BASED freelance crew member to join my production team but have no idea what day rates are typical...this person would be the principal camera operator/dp person and would also be involved with sound issues (so clearly a person with a wide range of experience)
We would be shooting one day a week for six weeks (mostly in an ENG/documentary style although some shots would have the opportunity to be properly staged) It would be ideal if the person shot on a Panasonic AG-HVX200 so that both cameras matched up but that's something that can be discussed. Both wireless and shotgun mics will be used. Lighting will be mostly using natural available light sources with perhaps some reflected/bounced light however for the more staged interview segments richer lighting setups would be a possibility.
To be honest, my budget isn't the greatest but I thought I'd at least see what's out there and maybe make a few connections with people I'd like to work with in the future. Given that, larger production houses probably wouldn't be a fit for this one...I'm more looking for an individual freelancer.
Contact me if you are interested in submitting your day rates or know of someone who lives in the local area for whom this might be a fit.
Steve
Salil Sundresh July 7th, 2008, 08:53 PM Hell Voice Actors,
I'm shooting a short comedy at UCLA currently, and we're currently in need of an announcer type voice over for this piece. Below are the lines I would need recorded. We're looking for an announcer type voice that talks about an actor's astounding career as it progresses. I skipped a line to separate each line of voice over. All of the lines are listed below for your convenience, but I've also attached the script for your reference. I would need the voice over no later than 10AM PDT on July 9th, 2008. Because of the last minute nature of this voice over request it is strongly recommended that you record the lines and then contact me with the attached recorded voice over. Please let me know if you think you would be interested. Compensation would be credit + copy. (no budget film)

David G Stone July 9th, 2008, 01:15 PM My name is David Stone in York County; VA and I’m looking for a like minded person with legitimate television production experience to form a partnership to create an introductory TV pilot for submission to the cable networks.
I want to make a pilot or two based on advice given to me several years ago by someone in the business. He said a completed pilot, even one not quite broadcast ready, would get much more attention than a written proposal, especially one from a complete unknown. So that’s what I’m going to do. But while I know what I want to do I need help to make it happen.
So I’m looking for a creative, detail oriented people person with Line Producer or better TV experience who’d be willing to trade a couple of weeks of their time, skill, talent and experience for a half share in a maybe.
Someone close to Yorktown would be best with gas prices being what they are.
If anyone is interested or would like to know more or has any questions you can email me at dgstone@verizon.net

Joshua Fulton July 13th, 2008, 08:28 AM Hi, does anybody know how to get a job on a film set? I just want to be there, making some kind of livable wage. I'll do whatever job is there. PA, whatever. I have some experience on a set, have directed my own things, done sound, lighting, etc., but no experience on a set where they actually pay you. I've thought about looking for temp companies in the area that do this, but am not sure which ones handle this. I've also responded to some things on craigslist, but right now no one's responded.
Thanks for any advice or info.

Rob Katz July 15th, 2008, 09:57 AM need studio space in manhattan, ny
i need to rent a studio space/stage/location for a talking head shoot. best would be if there was access to a black curtain since interviewee needs to be against black background.
any and all suggestions would be helpful.
thanks in advance
be well
rob
Matthias Krause July 15th, 2008, 04:15 PM I don´t know how much you want to spend, but you might want to have a look here: http://www.dctvny.org/facilities/studio.html
Very professional people and great rates...
Michael Galvan July 15th, 2008, 04:55 PM Check the Producers club too. They have rooms that are all black, with black curtains in the back.
Michael Wisniewski July 15th, 2008, 06:58 PM I use the Producer's Club a lot, especially for rehearsals & castings, it's a great place. I even took Judith Weston's class there. It's close to midtown/Times Square, so good access to public transportation, there's a parking garage down the street but keep in mind, vehicle traffic can be bad in that area. There's an inexpensive 1 Michelin star French bistro across the street called Marseille if you're wining & dining, or just want to treat yourself. But one caveat! the building and interiors are very run down and beat up, so be careful who you interview there.
Another great place is Photo Manhattan. It's much more presentable than the Producer's Club and the big plus their photo studios are setup for photographers which are nice for interviews. --- they have black curtains ---. It's located close to Union Square on 14th St, so easy access to public transportation.
If your interviewee is a VIP or needs special attention, you might call the business centers of local hotels to see about renting a small conference or banquet room. They can sometimes accomodate requests for backgrounds and certain types of equipment, but you might have to go through the A/V or banquet department, depends on the hotel. For example, the Tribeca Grand has a nice theatre / lounge in the basement.
Michael Wisniewski July 15th, 2008, 06:59 PM Haven't used DCTV but I've heard good things from people who have.
Will Mahoney July 16th, 2008, 02:21 PM There is a great little video tutorial that someone put together over at Exposureroom.com.
http://exposureroom.com/members/skumar.aspx/assets/19977365c63041abb36633f8cc8f4e87/
Now, the video doesn't showcase your camera (it uses a Canon A1) but you get the general idea of how to set it up and how to tweak the functions. It may or may not help you. Plus, the author of the video is super helpful. Leave him a comment and he might be able to help you out.
Good luck.
George Tasick July 18th, 2008, 08:57 AM I'm looking for a video crew in the Orlando, FL area.
I've been approached by an organization holding their 60th anniversary convention at Disney world in September 2008.
I'll likely need a crew to assist me in covering this week long event.
I would like Z1U/ex1 style cameras. I'll probably need 2 available (with operators) and would like a "porta jib" style arm to use during the event and a steadicam flyer would be excellent as well. We wouldn’t need the jib or the steadicam all the time but it would be nice to have them to get some more interesting shots.
Please email me at george@tasickmedia.com and let me know your capabilities, equipment and rates. Also, if you have demos online, please link me to those in your email as well.
Thanks,
George
Solomon Chase July 18th, 2008, 11:20 PM Hello there UK'ers. I've been asked to shoot a video for a band from Doncaster, UK. The only problem is I can't bring all my equipment from Atlanta on the plane.
I'm looking for someone with any film equipment (lighting, jib, dolly, steadicam, etc) to use for the shoot. At the very least I need a lighting kit.
I will be shooting the video with a really cool prototype from one of RED's upcoming competitors, along with some super rare lenses like an F0.85 and F0.95 prime, so the video should have a very unique look.
Because the video budget is very small, in addition to money, I can barter my web/flash design, color correction, or VFX services for use of your equipment
I designed the website for Cinevate ( http://www.cinevate.com ) and just did the cinematography, VFX, and color correction for the following 48 hour film: http://vimeo.com/1305149
also, if anyone has contacts outside of DVinfo, send em' on!

Patrick Coker July 21st, 2008, 03:22 PM I need six shooters with HD Cameras (Canon preferred) for an outdoor shoot in Sept. If interested please email me your info, cam type, day rate, etc. PAID GIG!
Rob Katz July 22nd, 2008, 02:47 PM m&m&m-
thank you for your thoughtful replies.
i spent two days last week walking thru various mnahattan spaces.
i was very surprised at the quality of the spaces. frankly, for the $ i expected a bit more pizzazz, they kind u find in boutique edit and sound studios. this certainly was not the case.
and then, guess what? it turns out the client will not be needing a manhattan location. the production is now being moved to philadelphia! 3rd week of august.
anyone know of decent interview space in philly?
thanks in advance
be well
rob
Rob Katz July 23rd, 2008, 06:40 AM my earlier asking about nyc interview space now seems premature. my client has moved the shoot to philly.
i'm looking for a rental space that would allow me to shoot four talking head interviews. the interviews will take approx 1.5hrs. because the interviewees are rather elderly, i am scheduling two for each day. i am hoping to shoot on thurs/aug 14th & fri/aug 15th or fri/aug 15th & sat/aug 16th.
i am also looking at a place called videosmith for some rentals.
anyone with an opinion about videosmith?
anyone with a thought to lend about some interview space?
as always, thanks in advance for any info u care to share.
be well

Travis Johnson July 27th, 2008, 12:43 AM I'm directing a short crime drama/thriller. For the film we're looking for two locations, a small home or apartment and a abandoned building. Both would need to have power provided to them. I'd also like to find the locations near either Roxboro, Durham or Raleigh. I am working with Eno River Media Productions which is a federally recognized 501C3 non-profit company. Therefor all activity can be billed accordingly as tax deductible. Myself, the cast and a professional crew from the Triangle will be the only ones at the location. For more information about ERMP please visit our website at http://www.ermp.tv
John Miller July 27th, 2008, 08:51 AM There are some abandoned buildings in Durham in the area near the prison.
In Hillsborough, there is a disused Wal-Mart that has been sitting empty for a few years. Not abandoned as such but looks that way.
For a small home, I have a property in Raleigh sitting empty but furnished.
(The creek on our property runs into the Eno...)

Michael Galvan July 28th, 2008, 08:08 AM Hi all,
I am DP’ing a SAG independent feature film in September, with a great team of people behind it. There is distributor interest in it, along with some “star” names in it. I am still in need of several key crew positions that need to be filled (the people I normally work with are not available during the shooting timeframes).
I am looking for:
1st Assistant Camera
Gaffer
Best Boy Electric
Key Grip
Sound Mixer/Recorder
These positions are PAID. Of course, meals are provided as well. Shooting is 13-15 days in September into October, all in New York City.
If you are interested, please forward a resume and definitely an online reel to m.galvan@mac.com
I will begin interviews over the next week or so.
1st Assistant Camera:
Someone who is proficient in focus pulling, though the shots aren’t anything too difficult. Will be using a P+S Technick Mini35 w/CinePrimes
Gaffer:
Extensive knowledge lighting for 1/3” HD cameras necessary. I am proficient in this as well, so I will also help here. Also, must understand how to light large areas of space outside as we will be shooting in blocked off NYC streets at night.
Best Boy Electric:
Will mainly assist the Gaffer with lighting setup/execution.
Key Grip/Grip:
Will also assist the Gaffer/Best Boy Electric with lighting setup/configurations. Will manage the grip package.
Sound Mixer/Recorder:
Will work with Boom Op to capture up to 4 channels of audio per scene. Looking for someone owning his or her own mixer/equipment. I have some audio gear too, so can discuss what will work.
Philip Gioja July 28th, 2008, 01:06 PM Yang Wen,
Good to see Chicago represented! I'm currently available for those dates - you can see at my website here: http://www.centerstreetproductions.com. I have some basic pricing info and a couple of samples listed, and can send out DVD copies as well if they'd like some samples that way.
The last Indian wedding I shot was a couple years ago for Ben Lynn, also in Chicago.
Thanks,
Phil
Adam Bauser July 28th, 2008, 01:26 PM Videosmith is great. I've rented from them many times without any problems whatsoever and they have a good selection of gear.
Wish I had some advice for you on a studio. Center City Film and Video on Walnut St. has a small studio I've used before, but I'm not sure if they rent out the space without a crew, but they might. They are not cheap though.
Another option would be to simply rent a hotel room or conference room at a hotel. Especially if all you are doing is talking head interviews. You could also look into renting a furnished office for a day or a conference room from a place that rents executive office space. You might have better noise control is a hotel though.
Travis Johnson July 28th, 2008, 03:05 PM you have been sent an email sir. :)
Bill Latka July 28th, 2008, 06:11 PM I have a 40 minute interview shot on Canon XL H1 that i need to digitize to HDV/Final Cut. Can use that camera or a Canon HV10 or HV20. Can you help? Westside of LA. I have $25 for this easy gig.
Call Bill: 310-990-1938 or blatka@ca.rr.com
Lathe Poland July 29th, 2008, 03:18 AM Are you still looking?
