Part of my HV10 package was a UV filter. I assume it screws right into the front of my lens, but that means when not in use and packed away, with no cap for it, the filter can easily be touched or scratched.
So am I supposed to attach and detach every time I use the camera?
It just seems odd. On my dvx-100, the lens cap can be put on over it, so it's protected when not in use.
Any suggestions?
thanks,

Theoretically the UV is supposed to stay on your front element, protecting it from nicks and scratches and dirt. So you would only remove it to clean it or if it is causing flare in certain shots.

Thanks. Yeah I went to B&H today and bought a cap. $3.79. You spend 2000 bucks there and you still have to pay for a cap for the Tiffen UV filter. Dang me!
I just don't understand what Tiffen is thinking not to include a cap because upless you take it off every time it would be easy to touch or scratch when putting away, etc.

I had the same problem when my HV10 with lens kit showed up today. I found a pretty good 37mm lens cap with lanyard at Best Buy for $5.

Good show. Still it's odd not to be included.
Another oddity with the HV10, it comes with an adaptor to plug in, but you can't use it to charge the battery. For that you have to use the camera (dumb) or buy a charger - 20 bucks.
Well, since I haven't been escorted off the premises for asking dopy questions, here's another.
When using the wide angle lens, I just screw it in over the uv filter, right, I don't have to take off the uv do I's?
looking left and right for security,

If you leave the UV filter on, a W/A lens may vignette because it is farther away from the camcorder lens.

Yep a UV filter, or any filter will cause the WA lens to vignette, you can always get a larger UV to go on the front of the UV.
My (UK) HV10 did not come with a UV at all.
I leave my UV on all the time with no lens cap, I am fairly gentle with objects, no problems so far, if I get dust on the UV, I give it a good wipe with a cloth and spit.
These things will not shatter if you look at them wrong ! :)
