(no, not ebay) "Thank you very much for your mail, about the status of the item,i very much appreciate your reply and i believe that the item is in its best condition? and can be presented as a gift?i will offer you US $3900.00 including the shipping overseas,i'm very serious about this transaction so i dont want you to take it lightly and i want us to make everything snappy cos im very busy at work nowadays,i dont have much time for the internet. I will make the payment via paypal cos i believe its the best to make an online transaction,so send me your paypal email address or request for a payment so that i can proceed with the payment of the item asap. Thank you very much hope to hear from you soon." I emailed the guy (after I called Paypal...they told me to send it to their "spoof" email account) and told him to send me his phone number and address in order verify his credibility. Amazingly, he hasn't responded. Ya gotta love these idiots... Regards - David Bird Tim Polster April 3rd, 2008, 04:26 PM Sean, IMHO, You will be lucky to break the $2,000 - $2,500 range. Michael Nistler April 3rd, 2008, 04:51 PM Thanks David, Sounds like either the beginning of a confidence game or nefarious transfer of funds (perhaps using a stolen credit card). Good for you - on one side working hard to sell your gear and the other side using good business sense to avoid getting caught up in fraud. Thanks for sharing, Michael Sean Vincent April 3rd, 2008, 04:58 PM I was thinking of somewhere around the £1200 mark... I've seen the lens being sold on it's own for £700. Like everything, i guess it's only worth what someone will pay for it. It's got to be said though, i've never seen a better SD image from a MiniDV cam before. I've just shot a movie with it and the images are fantastic. Thanks for your input...much appreciated. Sean Tim Polster April 3rd, 2008, 05:28 PM I think a lot of us are waiting for the DV500 equivalent in the HD space. A lot of value for the money. Vito DeFilippo April 3rd, 2008, 05:38 PM Try an advanced search on Ebay, choosing "completed items only" and you'll see what others have managed to get... David Bird April 3rd, 2008, 06:59 PM Got this message after I requested a phone number, name, and address... "well im in y working place now and im unable to receive calls how are we gonna do it i think mailing is ok and best. thanks." "mailing is ok and best" hummm....I'm not sure I get the drift on that. It's pretty obvious that what he/she is up to would not fit the guidelines of the Better Business Bureau. Sender's email is royalversion7@aim.com. Beware. Regards all - David Bird Allen Plowman April 3rd, 2008, 07:11 PM It will either be a hijacked paypal account, once you ship the item, you will be notified by paypal that the transaction was reversed, and your account will go negative, OR they will ask you to ship it to a different address, once they recieve it, they will file a claim with paypal saying it was not shipped to a confirmed address, and they will get the money refunded. either way, your out the money and the camera and the shipping. Vence Vida April 3rd, 2008, 07:39 PM I had a camera for sale on ebay and someone clicked "Buy it Now" and sent me a letter very similar to this one. The way they tried to scam me was to send me a fake email that appeared to be from PayPal saying I had been paid (which of course I hadn't). They were hoping I would go ahead and ship the camera. They say they are very busy and in a hurry so you will just go and ship it before you take the time to confirm payment. Luckily I recognized it as a scam from the first moment and never even responded to them - just turned it into ebay security. Sean Seah April 3rd, 2008, 08:11 PM We get a lot of em in my country. Do be real careful! Ben Lynn April 3rd, 2008, 09:17 PM I think the tapeless part will be tough to find. There aren't many consumer tapeless hd cameras out there and the people with them are probably pretty happy with what they have. Something may turn up though so be patient. Good luck. John C. Butler April 3rd, 2008, 10:12 PM Sure you can't lower that by 100 dollars? Anybody? It doesn't have to be anywhere near mint, just works. Leonard Levy April 3rd, 2008, 10:14 PM Tokina is sold Leonard Levy April 3rd, 2008, 10:16 PM Varizoom is sold Tsu Terao April 3rd, 2008, 10:17 PM New condition unused Sony electret condenser mic ECM-23f. Includes 20' XLR cable w/ Cannon & Neutrik connectors, ball gag windscreen, carrying case, mic stand adapter, and instruction manual. 20-20,000 Hz; cardioid; 250 ohms; Powered by 1 AA battery; voice/music switch; 0/20dB PAD switch. I have two available - $150 for both. Paypal available (add 3%); will ship via USPS Priority to lower 48 states only; Ebay feedback refs on request. Ken Grohs April 3rd, 2008, 10:30 PM Photos will be available for everything soon Interested in seeing. -Ken Jason Robinson April 3rd, 2008, 11:54 PM you tip off is referring to ANYTHING using the phrase "the item" instead of actually saying what it is. I mean, honestly.... who says "is the item in good shape"? No one. You say "is the camera in good shape." It doesn't matter what is said for the entire rest of the email, because that is far as you need to read. May be I am a cynic. But I have gotten so many of these emails. They are uniform in their approach and always a scam. Delete the email and forget about this one. Dave Frank April 4th, 2008, 12:31 AM SOLD! Thanks everyone. -David Ronald Lee April 4th, 2008, 01:18 AM anyone want these? Jason Burkhimer April 4th, 2008, 06:49 AM I am selling it for what your asking. Just with a 100.00 shipping fee! :) Seriously, thats just too low. This is a camera that shoots 1080 24p!!!! and has the most stellar image that rivals and sometimes surpasses cameras that cost 10 - 15 times as much(imo) -burk Anthony Tham April 4th, 2008, 09:02 AM Hi basically the title says it. Offer me your price or trade with me Thanks ! Anthony Tham Sean Adair April 4th, 2008, 09:40 AM Hi David, Avoiding this kind of problem is one reason the private classifieds on this board is so valuable and precious. Scams are pretty infrequent here, because of the the structure Chris setup and developed over time. Please try to find out if this is a person registered in our community, and if so "out" him for the good of us all. If it's on another board, take action there. It makes sense to keep those distinctions clear when placing/responding to enquiries, especially here where we have the tools to keep this community marketplace clean. Chris Hurd April 4th, 2008, 10:02 AM No accounts here match royalversion7@aim.com David, if you could forward to me the original email including header information, I'll try to block that person's access to this site. This forum doesn't even appear to lurkers and unregistered users, so if that guy actually found you through us then that means they have an account here. If that's the case then I'm in a position to do something about it, possibly preventing this sort of thing from happening again. David Bird April 4th, 2008, 10:14 AM Sean, I've notified "spoof" at paypay, contacted aim.com, and also craig's list, which is the other board where I posted my cam for sale. From all the WARNING messages posted on craig's list about scams and spoofs, I suspect that this type of activity goes on alot there. I've searched DVInfo.net's forums for royalversion7@aim.com (the offender) and didn't find any evidence of his/her presence on this site. I also googled the email address and didn't find anything. Apparently, staying below the radar is their objective. You're right...Chris is to be commended for the manner in which he protects all of us by requiring registeration before allowing someone to view the "private classifieds". I know there's been a couple of scam attempts here, (stolen equipment, please help me) but considering the number of individuals that use this board, I think I think the frequency of attempted funny business is really limited. NOW...if someone from this community would kindly purchase (at least make an offer) on the cam & accessories I have for sale, I would be a happy camper. Regards to all....and watch your back. If you even smell a whiff of a scam, RUN! David Bird Greg Patch April 4th, 2008, 10:21 AM email sent .. Thanks David Bird April 4th, 2008, 10:40 AM Chris, He didn't find me through this forum....came from Craig's list. If you still want the emails, I'll be glad to forward them to you. Regards - David Chris Hurd April 4th, 2008, 11:21 AM Hi Dave, my primary concern was whether or not he found you through this forum. If he did not find you through this forum then I don't see any practical way to become involved -- but I appreciate your sharing the story with us here. Philip Hinkle April 4th, 2008, 11:50 AM What kind of lens and viewfinder does this have on it. What shape is the battery in (how long will it last). Our corp company just picked up a used one similar to yours and the batteries have very little life left. Thanks, Dave Blackhurst April 4th, 2008, 01:51 PM Craigslist huh... prime scam territory. ANYONE with computer access can set up a free e-mail account, or a pile of them, so just because they are online doesn't make them legit. Someone who is "very busy" or buying for their second cousin's aunt who's doing charity work in Nigeria or whatever is busy doing one thing - trying to make money by fraud... instead of working for a living. If they find a few naiive suckers out there, it's probably sadly all too lucrative. They have plenty of time to troll the internet and send scam emails out! I'm guessing the camera was advertised for quite a lot less than $3900? Another huge clue here... why would anyone be willing to pay way more than you are asking??? Presuming you're at a fair price, this is just the hope that your greed glands will overflow and overload your brain... yeah right. If you know what your gear is worth (and it's not hard to at least figure out a range), you know when someone is talking crazy... remember though that there are a lot of noobs out there, and all these scumbags have to do is find ONE on a regular basis and they are making pretty good money with little chance of getting caught. Most of these scams are painfully obvious, but there are a few pros out there (I ran across one in particular that works eBay and knows the sytem inside and out - fortunately my CC covered my tail), so you always have to be careful and trade safe. Ask a lot of questions before buying or selling, and if something doesn't seem right, challenge, challenge, challenge - and STILL be careful!! Kees van Duijvenbode April 4th, 2008, 02:11 PM Camera is sold. Brian Tori April 4th, 2008, 02:16 PM Standard Fujinon lens and supplied viewfinder. No battery provided. David Carter April 4th, 2008, 03:14 PM I've come across this recently. I was bidding on a jvc gz-hd6 and went to a pretty reasonable level for a second hand cam, but it got bid up to more than the new cam costs - like $600- more. I thought wow i cant compete with that, but it too turned out to be a scam and I got a second chance buy from the seller, but it took a few days to get through to the seller they were being scammed... all ok now and the sellers not a fraudster btw it was the buyers but it does seem these attempted scams on high end equipment are rife. most people want potential buyers with zero feedback to contact them first and i can see why... Bob Trimmer April 4th, 2008, 03:50 PM I received that identical inquiry on Craigslist, the exact wording. The next day one of our talk shows had the head of Craigslist on their program. I called and talked to him personally. He informed me that type of inquiry originates some where in Asia, and is very difficult to trace. Here is another corker. Here in Medford OR. A couple, finding no one home stole saddles and other tack equipment. They tried to cover their theft by placing a notice in Craigslist saying. They(the owners) had to move and did not have time to dispose of their belongings, so anyone could come and take anything they wanted, even their horse. Some one saw the huge number of people loading their cars and called the owner at work. He came home right away to find all the people loading his possessions, and had a difficult time trying to convince the mob this was his property. The head of Craigslist worked with our police department and some way located the computer and persons who perpetrated this crime. They are now in jail. Radio, TV, & local news paper is trying to help get the owners property returned. As of now I am not aware of how much has been returned. It is great to know that Craigslist can help in locating crimes like this. Sorry this is so long. Hope you have found it to be of some interest. Bob J Trimmer Medford OR Tony Sellars April 4th, 2008, 05:44 PM Hey guys, where can I find some of the small (camera metal shoe pieces)? Sorry, don't know what they're called. I want to rig up a multi shoe accessory bracket for the top of my camera. Chris Leong April 4th, 2008, 06:17 PM I picked up a couple of cold shoe mounts on eBay for $2 each. Cold shoes have no electronic contacts in them, just the mounting shoe. Hot shoes have some form of contact built in, typically for flash exposure and/or sync. HTH Ken Grohs April 4th, 2008, 08:01 PM Are you looking for something like this (tri-mount shoe adapter)? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/114982-REG/NRG_59111_59111_Accessory_Tri_Mount.html -Ken John C. Butler April 4th, 2008, 08:02 PM I found an old wallet of mine with 60 dollars in it that I could put towards this. How does $525 sound? John C. Butler April 4th, 2008, 08:04 PM Just how faulty is this hv20 of yours? Paul Cascio April 4th, 2008, 08:15 PM I love this thread. It's so real. Derek Morrison April 4th, 2008, 08:38 PM Hey everyone, I have tried to purchase a JVC GY-HD100U. All of the cameras that I have tried to get I have either been burned on, or outbid. If anyone is wanting to sell a used JVC GY-HD100U, Please message me. Chris Hurd April 4th, 2008, 09:16 PM Thread moved from Open DV to Private Classifieds. Title changed from "Searching for Camera." Please avoid ambiguous thread titles. Chris Hurd April 4th, 2008, 09:21 PM See http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=117849&highlight=hd100 These come up for sale all the time, just search this forum. Alan Ortiz April 4th, 2008, 10:05 PM Hey Derek, I have a JVC-HD100U(A) for $3000 shipped. No cosmetic issues other than a loose "foot" extension on the bottom which looks like its easy to replace (its screwed into the base at the tripod mount- everything else is in order) and low drum hours. I cant say for sure right now because im away but it should be about 55 drum hours. Comes with the IDX dual charger, and two batteries- 1 E7s and 1 E10s, as well as the mount for the batts, and an anton bauer power tap to hook up accessories like a firestore or lights, etc. I took care of it like i was going to sell it because...well when i bought it I knew that i might need to so its been well taken care of. I've recently upgraded the firmware to its latest version. All of the original packaging and documentation is included. Let me know if you are interested! -Alan Ethan Cooper April 4th, 2008, 11:36 PM Last call guys, either someone has a Letus to sell me in the next 2 days or I'm ordering one, waiting, and hoping it gets here by Early May. With the extra time to think about my purchase, I'm now leaning toward getting an Extreme. Anyone selling an Extreme? Rafael Lopes April 5th, 2008, 12:44 AM The item has been sold... Stephen McCutcheon April 5th, 2008, 02:57 AM Hi David, I received plenty of such idiotic replies whilst trying to sell my PD170NTSC. First on ebay, a bidder in Nigeria never paid up. Then as i had ads posted on Craigs list, Gumtree... all sorts of chaps started coming forward most dubiously from Africa. One chap wanted to offer me a similar amount for his wife who was no a band tour of Nigeria. He also wanted it posted by USPS when the item was clearly stated as located in China. I then had others offering me amounts and only willing to pay by western union On the buying front, the situation is even more frustrating. After advertising for a wanted camera on free ad boards etc... people would email me simple one word answers like "I still have one if you want it...?" several days after the posting 'Want what exactly?' Others would offer their cameras, even send reasonable photos and then not answre any further questions such as "what is the history of the camera?" and "what are the hours of use" etc... This long sordid drawn out episode has meant that I'd rather use either ebay, a trusted community board (such as this one) or a shop listing in Europe to buy instead of hoping that someone will answer a legitimate ad on the internet with a legitimate reply.
