View Full Version : The AT4073A or AT835st shotgun Phil Nolan December 31st, 2006, 09:11 AM I’m a looking to buy my first all around shotgun for the Canon XH-A1 and was trying to decide if AT4073A or AT835st shotgun is the way to go. Thanks Phil Brian Luce December 31st, 2006, 10:52 AM The 4073 is highly regarded. If you can afford it, you won't regret buying it. Jason Strongfield January 3rd, 2007, 06:28 PM AT4073a is a "very very alot" :) of mic for the money Matthew Wilson January 4th, 2007, 12:00 AM Are you looking for a mic that will be on camera? What are you planning on using for? The 4073a is a great mic, but any on-camera mic in general will not give very good sound except for very close shooting or gathering ambiance. I heard a few samples of the A1's onboard stereo mic and it was probably as good as you'll get, especially indoors. I've used the 4073a indoors but always in a controlled situation on the end of a boom, within a couple of feet of the speaker. Anything farther than that and it will sound hollow like most shotguns indoors. Phil Nolan January 6th, 2007, 06:48 AM Thanks for all your advise. I guess I'm looking for a Mic to go on the camera when I'm by myself and on a stand or a boom when I have help. Phil Matthew Wilson January 6th, 2007, 04:15 PM In that case, the 4073a is a good choice, though you may want to look into the Sanken CS1, it's a short shotgun but can be a little better in interiors.
