"Cannot record still images on memory stick"

This is what is says when you press the photo button while in any of the progressive modes (24p, 24pA, 30p). Kind of a deal breaker for those of us who bought this camera to shoot progressive with the added convenience of still image capture.

At first I thought I had the wrong kind of memory stick. The port on the camera is labeled "Memory Stick Duo PRO" but what they intended to say was Memory stick pro duo. A lame and misleading mistake on Sonys part. I totally expected to find a new kind of memory stick.

Also 1440x810 is the highest resolution you can capture. Not quite the 1920x1080 I was hoping for. Very noisy stills too.

Correct -- you can't have stills in 24P. I assume that the deinterlace process needed for a still from I couldn't/wasn't altered to handle a still from 24P. Drove me crazy in Asia until I read the manual this week.

Once the image is scaled to 1440, then to keep 16:9 the 1080 must be reduced to 810. So we know the photo is processed after scaling.
