One sick video, I loved it. hahaha. great camera moves and super music. fit really well, you knew something crazy was going to happen, just didn't know what. my favorite part is when they are in the trailer and the tree topples over, very funny. In the opening scene with the couple in the grass, I thought the voices were theirs, then you realize it's not theirs, but then they are in a place that doesn't look like a trailer, then it all comes into focus at the end. Really funky bold story and the your actors made me believe that they were capable of doing it. Great job. Tell us you camera moves... what kind of dolly and crane etc...

Loved it! You always have the craziest characters, and I mean that in a good way. Nice twists (not only one, but two)! Really nice camera moves, focus pulls, etc, also. Really good job!

I hated those awful people! Not that the gal at the end was any prize, but it was quite satisfying to me when she blew them away. That dude wasn’t smelling anything after that… Overall, quite a twisted movie. What are we gonna do with you, Brad? ;)

From a technical standpoint, you did your usual, stellar job. The shots that stand out to me every time I watch it are the ones with the pink-hatted gal after the outdoor shooting. The lighting is beautiful. And your moving shots/cuts during the couch scene 2/3 of the way through really, really worked. It’s amazing how much that adds—especially when someone does as good a job with it as you do.

“You smell finer than…pancake breakfast at the YMCA.” “Oh, baby, I don’t smell that good.” LOL!

I've never been to Wyoming, but from Bradley's DVC5 and DVC7 films, I sure am getting a warped view of what Wyomingers must be like... :)

So glad you liked the film and thanks for the comments.

Back when I first joined this forum, DVC #3, had purchased a book from another great member here, Dan Selakovich. "Killer Camera Rigs that You can Build".

Long story short, I built a small crane out of plumbing pipe and if you look close, might notice that the angled Trailer Shot with the tree toppling over is a crane shot. Same for the final, but going up.

Also from Dan's book, a home made dolly that looks similar to the Tushy Pushy Mike Teusch dolly. It is set up on 2 10' foot PVC pipes. One of the wide shots with the couple playing around the tree were on the dolly. Given that there was nothing real close to the lens, made it not as obvious.

Needless to say, we were freezing our butts off out there that evening. lol...talk about memories...just make a film. Right?

Best wishes~

Much appreciated Bill and am so happy you liked the short. Rest assured that your warped and distorted view of Wyomingers is completely off base. Must confess that there are really only 2-3 sicko's in Wyoming and I'm one of them. The place you really need to worry about is Idaho!

I liked it. I must admit I don't find it as funny as your previous entries--nothing personal, I just can't imagine characters get any better than the one you came up with for "Reflections"--and I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the Southern accents on the dumb hicks (we have those types up North, too; "stupid" is universal), but I liked it anyway.

But enough of that, let's get to the constructive feedback, which must unfortunately be negative. First thing I noticed was the audio; pretty good most of the time, but all of the indoor dialogue has that annoying echo. It's not absolutely terrible, but there's a lot of indoor stuff, and the echo is bothersome.

Then there was the first pan and tilt move, both of which were a little uneven. Not jerky, exactly, they were smooth enough once you got going, I just noticed a couple of speed changes that bugged me.

And on the editing side of things, to go right from the happy couple dancing around the tree to showing the tree on top of the trailer (while it's a-rockin') with only a cut was a bit confusing. It just happens, out of nowhere, and it gives the impression that the happy couple are the ones inside, getting down to business. And they moved the tree to the top of their home, for some reason. I like being challenged, I like having mysteries to solve, but it didn't work here for me. Felt like an awkward edit more than an intentional "what's going on here?" moment.

Then, finally, there's the writing. "Shootin' them people while they was dancin' around that Christmas tree..." You already showed it happen, no need to tell it. I also felt something was strange about "Do you remember that Christmas a few years back, at the trailer park?" and "Yeah, but you remember what happened before that?", but for the life of me I can't imagine what it is. I think it just felt a little too "on purpose", if that makes any sense. Sorry I can't help you there, I just know the lines hit my ears weird.

"In Cold Blood" meets Jim Varney! This one I'm trying to figure out. As usual, great cinematography that I've come to always expect (and am not disappointed this time around) but the genres... Do they mix? Er, Merry Christmas!

Thank you Robert for the constructive critisism. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

I agree the audio could heve been better. Sorry you found the audio rough. I would say that is the result of a need for better mics and more time.

Then there was the first pan and tilt move, both of which were a little uneven. Not jerky, exactly, they were smooth enough once you got going, I just noticed a couple of speed changes that bugged me.

Yes. Creative freedom with the camera moves designed to go along with the dialog and "smelling" action. As you say, smooth enough but a bit off. That was the idea.

And on the editing side of things, to go right from the happy couple dancing around the tree to showing the tree on top of the trailer (while it's a-rockin')...and it gives the impression that the happy couple are the ones inside, getting down to business.

EXACTLY! :) Sorry if that didn't work for you but that was what we were going for. A bit of a twist.

Well then, it's not all bad. I wouldn't have gone the same way, but knowing now that you wanted it to look that way, I'd say you did a great job of it. Good work!

Thanks Robert,

I realize that much of filmmaking is subjective and as such, will never be embraced by all. Guess I can only hope that a majority of the viewers get the twists, turns and characters. However, if the majority can't relate at all, I need to ask myself some hard questions. Something I'm not afraid to do.

You bring up valid points and thoughts and I'm serious when I say "thank you" as it helps me examine the work through a new set of eyes.

Best wishes~

Hey Bradley just stopping in to say how much I liked your film.
You know how to tell an interesting story. I liked the crazy over the top dialouge and I realised the second or third time I watched it that the gun was sitting right next to the candle. A bit of foreshadowing always works out nicely. :)

Oh and thanks to your trailer shaking scene, people will finally be able to forget when I had a guy humping a stuffed fish in my "Reflections" entry.

Good cinematography,Multiple killings, Random drunk lady :P
That's some good old entertainment right there.

I liked the actors a lot, they seem to me like a real annoying couple, but it works out in a good way. I wanna know what Pickles smells like after a killing. The drunk lady at the end surprised me, but I guess they deserved it for killing the jolly couple on Christmas :)

The film has a nice Christmas feel to it. I loved hearing "Silent Night."
Its probably the most christmasy feeling I had this year since I had to spend Christmas away from my family for the first time.

Good work Bradley...Keep it up!

Bradley:

Nice friendly couple. Reminded me of that couple in the Woody Harrelson movie... damned if I can remember the name. Anyway, kind of cold blooded. I did watch the movie twice, but I lost track of what was memories, and what was present. Got confused as to whether couple is actually talking from inside trailer. Was obvious that inside shots were of larger space, so I guessed that was present better circumstances, but they did the same thing on one of those spoof movies too, had a big Taj Mahal in a little trailer. Finally, did not get connection of the final shooter and perhaps there wasn't one other than just plain and simple Karma... Great camera work though out.

lol Darryl! Thanks so much for all the comments. You have me crackin' up over here...much appreciated.

Darryl, I don't think anyone who watched your film with the guy doinkin' the stuffed fish will EVER forget it! Unfortunately, no one who ever sees my short film will EVER think that was ME in the trailer. Hmmmmmm..........

Natural Born Killers and Oliver Stone? I think that is the one you are referring to. Yeah, they are kinda like that. Sick puppies at the height of their insanity meeting fate/karma in 3 minutes or less...lol

That you very much for the comments. I appreciate it very much!

bradley marlow is without a doubt the finest filmmaker wyoming has ever produced!

err, the only filmmaker wyoming has ever produced?

my only disappointment was the end. i thought the whole thing was funny in a "badlands" kind of way...but it fell off at the end, it needed more from the killer's killer. i think it is that the couple's dialogue is so funny and over-the-top, and she is so muted that it falls off.... i guffawed out loud when they knocked over that christmas tree. funny stuff.

and is that my imagination, or was that a corona she was drinking? corona? corona?? what kind of bad-ass hard-as-nails trailer trash serial killer drinks corona? that's what we call narrative slippage! where's the colt .45 when you need it?

fun, as ever, to take a trip through quirky-land with you, bradley.....

Thank you for all the comments Meryem. You made my day!

"I have narrative slippage? Egads. Does it show?!?"

Not your imagination at all. It was indeed a corona and yes, we could have roughed her up heven more. Maybe a Shirley Temple would have done the trick? :)

Great job Bradley. I thought the story concept was great, and the random drunken lady singing a Christmas carol was gold.

I agree that the sound had some hangups, but I'm willing to bet it was due to the mics you had on hand and you can't really be blamed for that.

Good job making a humorous film! Your dialogue and your actors really made it work...Sometimes funny ends up coming off as lame if not executed correctly...Your film, however, does not have that problem! You and your team totally pulled it off!

Nice cinematography too!

That's one wild ride for three minutes. LOL I like your style, maybe not your content so much with the killings but you've definatly got style. It may not be my favorite genre but you guys sure seem to have fun with it and I like that.

Sicker 'n Hell...

...Funnier 'n Hell...

Kept me guessing the whole way through what was coming next.

Very jumpy continuity, but that obviously was deliberate to keep the viewer disjointed and present the story your way.

It worked.

I don't get as nitpicky as some others when watching something. I feel they are the ones telling the story and I'm just along for the ride.

I think your actors portrayed their characters very colorfully and I was entertained. What you did all "hung together" and told it your way.

1) Sick'n'Twisted and I loved that
2) The camera movements were so right for the scene, the way they panned over the pieces of them laying there made me feel dirty or something. I thought it was perfect use of camera movement to induce emotion.

I think the final lady entering was rushed, for as great as the main portion was, I think that if you gave this scene a little more time on the shot/pacing around the bodies/etc. rather than jumping to the beer. I think sitting there with the beer on the cu was too fast without dialog to get to know her. Just my thought though, but really a SICK story! And extremely high production quality.

Typical warped Bradley (which I know he'll take as the compliment it's meant to be). Good editing. Good lighting, even in the dark outdoors, which can be very tough. Could have paced a little quicker, which I only say because my mind started wandering to how the other downloads were doing during the middle of it, so it wasn't holding my attention as well as it might have. Definitely loved the ending, not just that they got shot, but shot by some crazy drunk lady is perfect.

Smile,
Kris

I'm sure it would get a favorable rating from Joe Bob Briggs. Trailer Park - check. Multiple shotgun murder - check. Beer - check. Looks like all you needed in there was something about a murdering reindeer. That sounds familiar... Oh yeah.

So, nice. I'm not able to spend the technical time on reviews I would like in this round since there are so many entries but overall, I like the story. But if you know what I like, that figures.

To follow another comment, I have heard about those wild Idaho Hill folk. We go around that state. (Lorinda bait)

nice cast of weirdos. Good job.

Brent - Thank you for your comments. Sick N Twisted is quite a departure from your sweet and caring film, huh? Glad we could "make you feel dirty". I really appreciate all your thoughts.

Kris- Thank you for your comments and I'm glad you liked the ending too. Warped huh? lol...probably just a tad. NCC-1701 to the rescue!

Sean- Thank you for the comments too. The Joe Bob Briggs comment cracks me up. A dead reindeer would have been perfect. Yes- Must be very careful of People from Spudville. Muhaaaahaaaahaaaa!

I appreciate each of you taking time to post here.
