Just thought I'd drop by and say hello and introduce myself.

I'm UK based, Newmarket to be precise and we are just going to start producing a few VCD's for a local car clubs. I wasn't actually looking for a camera of this spec but something outstanding happened and I've managed to buy a new XL1s for £1200 GBP...

I'll be picking it up at the weekend and I cant wait. I'm an avid canon Fan with an EOS 1, 5 and D30 so the idea of being able to swap lenses is fantastic.

I'll try now and ask stupid questions , I'll speak to my mate with an XL1 first. Looking forward to playing with the camera

Some cents from my side. If you bought your XL1S second
hand it might be wise to bring it to Canon service center
first for a checkup and cleaning operation. To make sure
your camera works ok! The idea of swap-able lenses was
the main selling point for me too, although I currently
cannot afford another lens (they are pretty expensive).

It might be interesting for you to consider DVD too. The
quality output of the XL1S is very very good. Coupled
with an edit package like premiere and a good mpeg
encoder (like CCE) you can get marvelous results!

Maybe you can help me:
I am thinking about buying the EF-adapter because I have a range of Sigma and Tamron lenses (both european) which I use with my Canon EOS 300 camera. But will it really work? The answer I got from Canon was not very helpful (they said, it might or it might not work).

Wow, how did you manage to find an XL1S for £1200!?
The cheapest I can find is £2350 and I thought that was cheap!

Nice to see a few more UK people on the board, this is a great way to find information not only on the XL1 but other DV devises. As Dan said, you've managed to find it rather cheap.

I brought my XL1 secondhand 9months ago for £2100.

No matter what the price tag of the machine is, it's a wonderful tool and a tool is all it is, the person behind the lens makes the film.
