The one with the "color curve" doesn't look very good to my eyes.

Also... were these handheld shots with OIS on? I can't imagine it was. If not... why wasn't it active?

I think I may have shot this a little too dark. Here's a short test video I shot in Lake Eola, which is in Orlando, FL.

http://exposureroom.com/members/makoto.aspx/assets/8dfc035af02a42a38c89f8549c2fa8fb/?em=View

I had the ND filter on, and used Steven Dempsey's Panalook preset on. I think with the combination of the two, it made it a little darker than I'd like. I also find that compressing darker videos tend to pixelate a lot more. What's a good video format and optimal setting for compressing videos that are a bit dark?

I'd like to get some feedback and constructive criticism. I still have a lot to learn and would like to see what I can improve.

Music made me want to drink a margarita, so that is what i'm drinking now while writing this. (good thing btw) :) I have never been to this location, but the fountain is beautiful. I remember seeing it somewhere though, I think in some discovery channel special about a wake-boarder who jumps over it on a ramp. I do agree with your statement about it being just a hair too dark.

I like the panalook, but the greens may have popped out a little more with VividRGB preset or TrueColor. I'm a fan of both. :)

As far as the shooting, your pan's were smooth and the focus transitions were clean. I too still have a lot to learn myself, but my recommendation, is keep playing with it and doing little practice scenes like this is very important when it comes to getting ready for that big shoot day. :)

I haven't posted anything in the year I have had the camera. I use Vegas 7 and don't do much more than fit my clips to the music. I know I have interlacing problems but need to start somewhere. As you will see, it is mostly hand held. Enjoy.

Hi Everyone,
Here's my 1st video with the XH-A1! You gotta love this camera.
I took it with me to Paso Robels, CA this weekend while wine tasting.

Here's the 1280 X 720 version: http://www.vimeo.com/956274

Hi Greg,

I see this has been up a while, and no comments, so I'll chime in.

Nice effort, good instincts, some nice shots - the UN, the Bridge, and even the pullout on the park, minus the wobblyness.

My .02 - work on your composition, fill up the frame, try for some more interesting angles as opposed to generic wide shots, and shoot more close ups. Consider a monopod, make sure OIS is on, and try holding the camera tight to your body sometimes, kind of like a football. Don't be afraid to put it on the ground and angle it up, and use whatever's available as a brace.

Man, hard to go wrong shooting in NYC on a nice day.

Well, I took the plunge and decided on the M2 + microX combo. I'm not an expert but I finally got to take some pictures with it. Take a look at my clips. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Especially if you are an M2 owner as well!

Here's my vids.

Hi Dave

Not much to say technically - it looks pretty sharp. Obviously you'll want to shoot scenes where there is more of a balance of light between the darkest and lightest areas (a bounce in the woman's face in the park would be a good idea, and some additional background lighting behind the book in the second clip would help too).

Congrats

Hello!

At last weekend I traveled to Mount Iremel, which is in the South Ural Reserve (national park). This is only 250 km. from the city. Just two days in this area with my Canon XH-A1.
Some scenes can be very dark when viewed on the TV, apologize, in this video was not done cc.

Hope you enjoy this video. ;-)

Hey, This is the second video I put together. It just some shots of a bonfire we had at my grandparents house. I think this one's camera work is alot better, but still needs some work. Also, the video kinda follows the musics dynamics. Again, let me know what you think, I need lots of constructive critism... Thanks!

So I just cracked open my XH-A1 a few days ago and instead of researching or reading the manual... I said, "I'm going to the park." So I filmed some stuff...

I warn you I know nothing. My Adobe Premiere CS3 failed to open so I am ashamed to say that I edited this in... :( ... Windows Movie Maker. Messed around with some stuff, I don't know what I should be exporting in so it's pretty bad quality.

Also- I had/have no steadicam and the 200$ tripod I just bought happened to be missing a wingnut so it's 95% filmed handheld. Let me know what's up and any tips/tricks are much appreicated.

I'd appreciate any constructive criticism on even the tiniest aspect of the video (even if you're new to the XH-A1 or editing, you've watched plenty of TV, so please fire away with any comments or thoughts).

It's just an extract from a film I shot at an event for the London Mayor election campaign.

I already posted this question in the web/DVD delivery forum, but I'd love to know how to get the whole of the QT player/progress bar at the bottom displaying in full.

Well I finally caught a break today from working all day long for six weeks straight and I happend to catch some really nice footage today with my new A1.

As I was leaving my job site today I noticed this little guy near the Water Fountain and he was soon joined by his two other siblings. I started shooting with my HV20 and then called my Wife to bring my A1 and Tripod. Thanks to my Wife and A1...The footage is spectacular!

I love filming Wildlife, especially birds and these guys when full grown are difficult to get close too, but these little ones hung out all day and didn't even flinch as I maneuvered my camera equipment around them getting all sorts of shots.

It was a great day!

I wanted to see if I could shoot and edit a short feature in less than 4 hours - this is the result.(That is from leaving my front door to starting the upload to Vimeo) All shot in my home town,Peel
I also shot all the footage from the same position, only panning, zooming and adjusting the height.

Hi!

I posted a video on dailymotion that some may enjoy. It's a clip of the making of the first music video that I did camerawork on. It is for the song 'Just Go Out with Me', by Justin Winokur, shot with director Jason Carswell.

This was shot on an XHA1, with HV20 as b-cam. This was just cobbled together for the people who worked on it, but it is a fun clip. We built a full-size carnival sideshow and stage in the director's backyard... good times! We are still working on post-production, which has turned into a massive feat, but I will post the finished video soon.

Be merciful in your critique, since I really had no clue how to shoot properly with my brand new XHA1. I learned quickly!

Well it turns out these Beautiful Little Guys are Green Herons...not Blue Herons!

Guess it was the shade that gave their feathers a blue tint.

Fantastic little birds!!!

I spent a lot of time last summer helping out on the Isle of Man whale and dolphin survey. The waters around the Isle of Man(middle of the Irish sea between England and Ireland, below Scotland.....have a look on a map!) are extremely rich in marine life and every summer we get huge amounts of dolphins, whales, basking sharks and other creatures.
Last summer I only saw basking sharks(I say 'only'! These things are MASSIVE and very impressive to see) so I was really pleased yesterday when we spotted a large group of risso dolphins.

Here's a bit of shaky footage I shot - http://www.vimeo.com/1284739

Hi Everyone

I've just bought the Steadicam Merlin and shot a few long sequences with it. Definitely an awesome tool to have with the A1 or any camera. Shot using the Vividrgb with all auto except the shutter at 1/50 in 25f mode.
