Another adaptor I hear! I know I know. There are quite a number of adaptors out there already being produced and sold professionally and at very competitive prices. Anyway if anyone is interested, I am currently building my own adaptor that has a detechable front lens mount that can be switched between flipped and non flipped. The adaptor is in the CNC shop as I write this.

Once completed at the end of the year, I will be testing it with a DVX100B and an MX500. And hopefully by January 2007, some footage.

My main aim is to sell the adaptor. But then again it all depends on feedback from anyone who may be interested. Good or bad feedbacks are welcome. Since we have come to a stage where the film look adaptor has really reach the level of some professional adaptor, we are in some way treading on sensitive ground as has been discussed over and over again regarding vibrating adaptor and patent issues. But so far, the course is clear and hope this will be an addition to the collection of adaptors out there with the added function of being flipped and non flipped when required and rod system to top it up.

What kind of ground glass do you plan to put in the thing?

Beattie screen or any good screen like EE-S or EE-A. Depending on what the customer need I suppose. I would go for Beattie as the light loss is low and will help when using the flipped version as light loss is an issue. The unit will be sealed when in use. Except when taking the front mount apart to attached either to the flipped unit or the non flipped unit. If careful, dust should not enter. The process should be similar to changing a lens on an SLR camera.

Its using Mirror setup. The same principle as someone here who did the setup before with cut vanity mirrors.

Mirrors are a bloody nightmare. They are a pain to mount as I found out and sealing the housing with mirrors without getting dust inside is very difficult, too much open space inside. Why not try the MINI35 setup: 1 mirror and 3 prisms (actually not that expensive as these ones are quite common)

Not sure which store you can get the prism from. From my standpoint, I think the cost of the prisms will make the adaptor too costly to do and sell. Mirrors are cheaper and that is why I took this route. I think I read somewhere you had someone quoting you 2000 pound for the prisms? I guess thats why Mini35 is so expensive. Optics are the most expensive part of an adaptor if I am correct to say that. I think mirrors are just a cheaper version for getting the same effect (downside as you have said is the occasional dust speckles).

Are you going this route with your flipped adaptor Tony?

Ive had a one piece prism designed for the DiGi35. It cost just under £2,000 to design and build but now I have the design and dimensions the cost is much much lower. Depending on the amount I get made in bulk the price varies. You can get simillar prisms that the MINI35 uses for about £20 each, I'll find out which company it is, I can't remember at the moment.
