Chris Medico November 30th, 2006, 09:35 PM I just wanted to share in the joy of others. ;) Chris Todd Giglio November 30th, 2006, 10:15 PM Not yet. I ordered mine from B&H so I hope there will be an early christmas present for me! :) I'll let you know if I get the "your item has shipped" notification. Todd Barry J. Weckesser December 1st, 2006, 05:22 AM I was one of the first to preorder the V1U from BH (customer service rep told me # 11 or 13). I have been calling the Provideo section of BH and they indicate shipment from Sony to BH this week but can't say from where - so, depending on shipping time, we should be receiving the camera next week or the following week at the latest - I opted for 1 day delivery so will post here when the shipping notice comes in. I gave a call to B&H on Friday and they couldn't tell me anything. :( Good luck with getting yours soon!! Chris Greg Quinn December 2nd, 2006, 11:29 AM Mine's on order with Amazon - still listed as December 22nd delivery. Chris Medico December 4th, 2006, 04:07 PM I got my response back today. The person indicated B&H had received no V1Us and had no date when they would arrive. Looks like I'll be taking the VX1000 and the HC3 to Charleston this weekend. Chris Tony Tremble December 4th, 2006, 04:12 PM UK delivery has been put back a week. :( TT Steve Mullen December 5th, 2006, 04:27 AM UK delivery has been put back a week. :( TT I could have bought a PAL FX7 in K.L., Malaysia today at the Sony Style store. About $4000 USA. Tony Tremble December 5th, 2006, 07:19 AM Steve Was that the Sony Style shop in the KLCC? I saw some lovely Bravia screens in there a couple of months ago which hadn't made it to the UK then. Anyway back on topic, do you know if there was/is a reason for the delays? TT Steve Mullen December 5th, 2006, 10:23 AM Steve Was that the Sony Style shop in the KLCC? TT Hi Tony, It sure was! Bigger than the Sony store in Las Vegas. I'm off to Chennai in 24 hours. They have Sony World. I expect they'll have Bravias so I can view a little V1 footage. I don't think the V1 is delayed. I expected a few by mid-DEC. Quantity not until the end of Dec. I'm hoping that the tester's feedback is being used. Took some video of the Towers today. But then it stated raining so I didn't get much. Hope to get much more 24p in India. V1 working perfectly. The histogram function is wonderful!!! Just aim camera and dial exposure shift until the graph looks right. See the red peaking -- and you know you are in focus. Of course, the top of the towers truly is infinity. :) Tony Tremble December 5th, 2006, 10:53 AM Steve, The Petronas towers are my absolute favourite building in the world. Day or night they look stunning. Could you shoot some headlights of cars please Steve. I have noticed on several clips now that there is a magenta flare in the 2 o'clock position near the light source. Never seen anything like it before wondered if you could repeat it/ track down what causes it. Anyway, if you haven't already, take a trip up the KL tower late afternoon and stay up there to watch sunset and the lights of KL to come on. You get a better view of the city from the KL Tower than you do from the viewing gallery in the Petronas Towers. Even better have a meal in the restaurant up there. Enjoy your trip. Rick Hensley December 5th, 2006, 02:38 PM So Steve, for those of us trying to make a decision, can you say anything at this time about the V1 vs. Canon A1? Chris Medico December 5th, 2006, 02:46 PM I'm doing interviews and some car footage this weekend at a teen safe driving event. Its not going to be wonderful subject matter in the beauty department but would give the compression engine a good workout with the motion of the cars. I think I'll use my HC3 so I'll have something to compare against when the V1 does arrive. Barry J. Weckesser December 5th, 2006, 05:52 PM Just got off the phone with the ProVideo section of BH and the representative seemed to know what he was talking about - said that the first shipment of the cameras (> 100 units) should arrive at BH next week and be shipped out. The next wave of several hundred units (believe he said 500-600) two weeks later. This was not customer service as they usually can't tell you anything - this was from the sales division and hopefully they would keep up since they are the people selling the product. Let's hope this is for real. Chris Rentzel December 5th, 2006, 09:40 PM Hi, I've placed an order for the V1 with my local dealer in Dallas. What's a normal release for a camera like this? Does Sony ship out allotments all over the country at the same time? Or do they start with their large dealers (like BH) first? I'm just wondering if I should place an order with BH before I get too far back in line. Thoughts? Steve Mullen December 5th, 2006, 10:04 PM Steve, Could you shoot some headlights of cars please Steve. I have noticed on several clips now that there is a magenta flare in the 2 o'clock position near the light source. Never seen anything like it before wondered if you could repeat it/ track down what causes it. Next week, if all goes right, I'll be starting a series of brief reports at camcorderinfo.com about the V1. I've got some shots of headlights that I'll be posting in the first story. Hopefully 2 stories a week. I'm starting with lack of vertical smear because this is an inherent feature of CMOS. But, there are always lens flare issues that some up. Some I love because in the old days flare was a creative element. Obviously, there are other times you don't want it. So far I've never seen any. I usually don't come here until late December so the Monsoon has crimped my outdoor shooting. --------- I can't comment on the A1 as I only held one for a few minutes. I think the pop-out LCD solves a problem of reaching around the extended LCD. I really like it and the Z1's viewfinder. But, for folks like me with Varifocal glasses -- it is too close to focus on. The 3.5" V1 screen works well for me. I really have needed the Sony lens hood. Plus, the S-video AV cable. I hope the V1 ships with the premium cable as composite video from HD makes no sense to me. And, the 570 battery should be standard -- one needs 2 hours. The 590 adds way too much weight -- however, it lasts forever! Weckesser December 6th, 2006, 05:02 PM You call the main sales number (800-606-6969) - number 8 on the menu is video - then choose "broadcast video" ( number 2) - then the next submenu choose 1 and it will get you to the provideo (broadcast video) section. They now say there are 200 units coming in on the first shipment and it is more than enough to cover all the preorders. Hopefully we will have the cameras before Christmas. Chris, when you call, tell them I told you not to call but since you were calling anyway that I suggested that they ship the cameras to the furthest customers first so they all arrive at the same time. I mean, it's not fair for me to have to wait just because I am geographically challenged. Will do!! ;) I expect to see some of that awesome footage you are going to shoot with your V1 soon after that package arrives. Marcus Marchesseault December 7th, 2006, 12:19 AM Unfortunately, I may not be able to provide footage right away as I leave on Christmas Eve for Palm Springs (rough life, I know). Perhaps I can taunt you all with some V1/Brevis35 footage during the dead of Winter! (evil laugh echoes off into the distance...) I'll be shooting footage from day one, but won't have a suitable computer until after I get back to Honolulu. Kula! My favorite place in the world! I also think upcountry Kona is amazing. My good friend and his wife (also good friend) live in Kula. I was over there in August while it was hot as Hades in Honolulu (I complain about 95F, what a wimp) and the weather in Kula is unbelievable. It is 78F with a warm sun and cool breeze in the middle of the day and cools off into the 60s at night for perfect sleeping weather. Apparently, it stays like that almost all year. Also the view is superb. Most people don't even get to see views like that on vacation. Now that there is fast internet service to the area, it is perfection. I was there when West Maui was on fire. I didn't do it. I never even went to that part of the island. I assume you have had some rain since then. Actually, it rained while I was there, just not on the fire. My neighbor says Hawaii has the best climate in the world and Kula has the best climate in Hawaii! The Sony V1 would have been handy during the Pali fire but I did get some still shots. Thanks also for all your discussions of the V1. Marcus Marchesseault December 7th, 2006, 10:03 PM That reminds me of something! I wasnt' terribly impressed with the footage of the fire from the FX1 due to too much grain. I wonder how the V1 will handle fire due to it's seemingly better color. Whenever I try to shoot fire, it's color is always diminished. If the CMOS in the V1 can get some color in fire, it will be very helpful in my upcoming production. Barry J. Weckesser December 8th, 2006, 09:29 AM Provideo sales at BH is now saying Mon or Tues for arrival of V1 - let's hope so!! Zsolt Gordos December 9th, 2006, 09:37 AM Hi, I just ordered my V1 from the link above. Payment was accepted and as delivery terms I was given 4 workdays. Meaning by next week end I will get it!! I will let you know about the cam and hopefully can post some shots soon. Cheers! Zsolt Gordos December 9th, 2006, 09:41 AM geez...the post with the link disappeared in the meantime...hmm..:) Boyd Ostroff December 9th, 2006, 09:54 AM Welcome to DVinfo Zsolt. Chris removed the link you refered to because it pointed to a vendor which isn't one of our sponsors. Of course there are plenty of places to buy equipment and the choice is yours. However our sponsors make this site possible, so out of respect we confine all discussion of vendors to them. But aside from that, our sponsors have been hand-picked for their integrity, customer service and competitive prices - they really are the "best in the business." Please don't post links to non-sponsors at DVinfo; if you really feel the need to discuss them then there are plenty of other forums available on the internet. Thanks for your understanding; you will find our full sponsor list here: http://www.dvinfo.net/sponsors/ Barry J. Weckesser December 9th, 2006, 11:06 AM Sorry guys - a newbie to the forum - didn't realize the rules - won't happen again. I do buy all my video equipment from BH for several years now. I was just excited that the V1 is starting to arrive on the shelves in at least one part of the world. Tony Tremble December 9th, 2006, 01:28 PM Just got my V1e home. Had a chance to fully test out the Canon XH-A1 and the Sony V1e and chose the Sony. Both fantastic cameras but the Sony ticked more boxes for me than the Canon. Don't anyone be worried about low light performance I had chance to work both cameras in a low light scene while the Canon is slightly more sensitive the Sony is perfectly adequate and the usable gap between the two is not huge. No matter how sensitive a camera might be I wouldn't shoot in anything lower in light than the test scene and the Sony rendered it perfectly. Anyhoo, I'll start a thread for my impressions when I've had chance to acclimatise myself with it. TT Chris Hurd December 9th, 2006, 01:41 PM Looking forward to that, Tony! Congrats on your purchase, Zsolt Gordos December 9th, 2006, 01:56 PM Welcome to DVinfo Zsolt. Chris removed the link you refered to because it pointed to a vendor which isn't one of our sponsors. our full sponsor list here: http://www.dvinfo.net/sponsors/ Thanks Boyd, clear. The link was from the UK anyways, where you don't have sponsors from. Let me suggest to add sponsors from the EU, too - its quite complicated to order from the US for EU citizens (maybe not all), the procedures with tax authorities, etc. Chris Hurd December 9th, 2006, 02:47 PM Right now we have one UK sponsor that also serves the EU market and I am in the process of finding a handful of highly regarded EU dealers to add to our list. Our UK sponsor is Production Gear in Hertfordshire. Look them up at http://www.productiongear.co.uk/ Tony Tremble December 10th, 2006, 12:01 AM Looking forward to that, Tony! Congrats on your purchase, Cheers mate! Chris Medico December 11th, 2006, 04:27 PM No cameras came in today. Who's turn is it to check tomorrow?? ;) Barry J. Weckesser December 13th, 2006, 08:14 AM Chris - my turn this week - not in stock yet at BH but if you look up on the search engines (google HVR-V1U) you will find it "in stock" in at least 8 stores in the New York area - these are the stores I wouldn't buy from (except for BH). I called a few and they said they had it in stock but would ship it out in 1-2 business days - called BH back and they indicated that is standard policy - they tell you that to get your order but it still arrives to all the stores at approx. the same time - BH now estimates the end of this week. Thanks for the update Barry, Not what I'm sure a lot of us wanted to hear but the truth is always better than "IN STOCK". I've got my fingers crossed it will still be here before Christmas. It would have been nice to have had the V1 last weekend for sure. Looks like one of my batteries for the HC3 has a problem. It starts out with 200min remaining, goes for a few minutes and then shows dead. Later I turned the camera on and it showed 180 minutes then after a few minutes showed dead again. When I got home I charged it for a 15 minutes and it ran the camera for the next 2 hours under test. How odd. Its only 2 months old and has maybe 10 cycles on it.. AND you know it would happen in the middle of an event. Luckily I carry spares. Chris Barry J. Weckesser December 14th, 2006, 07:03 PM Just went to this area of BH which I have checked daily (sometimes more than once) - early today "accepting orders" - now this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=468701&is=REG Now just have to call tomorrow and make sure it is shipped out (1 day shipping option) - too bad I can't play with the camera over the weekend. Marcus Marchesseault December 14th, 2006, 07:16 PM Dang, Barry! You must be as anxious as me! You da man for finding that one first. :) OMG! I just checked my order and I paid NextDay shipping from UPS. I might actually get it on Monday. Sweet! Chris Medico December 14th, 2006, 08:25 PM I got an email this evening from B&H stating the camera was in stock. When I checked my order online it still showed on order. Lets hope they got them shipped out this evening and the system hasn't been updated yet. Chris Todd Giglio December 14th, 2006, 09:23 PM Excellent! I only live 20 miles from BH, but I pre-ordered it a month and a half ago so I guess I have to wait for UPS to drop off my early Christmas present (maybe I'll call tomorrow and see if I can go and pick it up before work!!!... of course then I'd have to work a whole shift and stare at the box until I get home.) Todd Chris Medico December 15th, 2006, 08:32 AM The word is B&H is shipping a buch of V1Us today. Mine included. Chris Chris Barcellos December 15th, 2006, 10:36 AM Oh boy, here we go.... Tony Tremble December 15th, 2006, 12:37 PM I hope you enjoy your cameras as much as I am enjoying mine. TT Barry J. Weckesser December 15th, 2006, 01:32 PM Got the official email from BH including tracking number - will arrive on Monday. Chris Medico December 15th, 2006, 01:43 PM I didn't get a shipping email today. Looks like next week for me. :( Neal Wagner December 15th, 2006, 02:08 PM No shipping email to me from B&H yet -- I ordered the DR60 hdd also and the DR60 is still showing 'accepting orders' in the B&H listings. Hope my V1 is not held up awaiting the DR60! Barry J. Weckesser December 15th, 2006, 02:10 PM If you opt for 1 or 2 day delivery they ship out the same day - otherwise they wait 1-2 business days to ship if you opt for ground (3-5 day delivery) Chris Medico December 18th, 2006, 08:25 AM I got the email notification on Sunday. Looks like I'll have my camera this week. Looking forward to getting out and shooting some video with it. |
