These are raw m2t clips. Both shot in full auto, full 20x zoom.

1st is shot on a cloudy day, 2nd on an obviously sunny day.

First thank you everyone here for sharing your knowledge and thought about these camcorder : ). I am one of the guy fencing on XHA1 & V1.

I have a little question about the second clip, as I have been told that CMOS has better dynamic range and contrast ratio. But you can easily see the detail of the neck of that bird has been badly wash out by bright white.

Is this the limitation of Sony CMOS ? Or we can never expect good contrast control under auto-mode ? Shall I expect no different in term of picture quality between FX7 and V1 if everything is put under AUTO ?

And do you know the contrast ratio of FX7/VI/XHA1 ?

My guess, is the blow out could probably be eliminated with manual adjustments. If you look at the surroundings, there are a lot of dark colors and shades. The cam on auto probably balanced the whole scene and as a result the white on the bird got blown out.

When I get home I'll post a few more clips shot that day.

***IMPORTANT WORD OF WARNING***

Ok, everyone needs to be completely aware of the fact that if the user has any CineGamma settings enabled, it will completely destroy the dynamic range. It is meant to do so.

Ron, I'm of course not trying to be offensive to you, but it would be really helpful for viewers to know exactly what your settings were for these clips.

Great clips Ron. I ran Magic Bullet on Clip9 and it's stunning.

VLC is a free player for Windows/Mac and it should work.

Media Player Classic works better than VLC for me. I downloaded it free on CNET.

Also, Ron, that third clip (of the seagull) appears to have been taken on the beach.

Do you take any precautions to avoid sand/water/salt might get inside your camera?

Thank you Ron for your third clip, it is pleasant picture although the contrast is a bit low and the white-balance doesn't seem very accurate (as you see the feather supposed to be white but it goes toward light blue).

Did you find out whether you have the Cinematone Gramma turn on when shooting those clips, just wonder whether the blow-out is caused by the Cinematone feature rather then the limitation of Sony CMOS under Auto mode.

Most of these clips are shot using the 20x zoom, so I was not near the water. Funny that should mention it though. I shoot underwater video for a hobby. I have many scuba videos shot while on vacation that I edit with music. Kind of like a scuba vacation video. I'm waiting for the designers to release their housings for the FX7. All my previous videos were done with a TRV900.

Here is another clip.

This one shot wider angle a mixture of sunlit and shaded areas. I like how the cam still picks up color and detail both in the shade and sunlit areas.
