G'day guys,

Awaiting my A1, though i am curious about its close focus abilites. I will be using the cam for pseudo macro wildlife shots of reptiles and large bugs.

1) In terms of close focus ability, is it better or worse than other cameras you've owned?

2) How close does it it allow you to get?

3) Zoom-in close ups better than wide?

4) Anyone tried it with a diopter or Canon 500 Close-up filter?

Thanks alot!

I'll be doing tests shortly with the A1, using the Brevis adapter and also our 72mm achromats.

Well at full zoom its 1m, full wide its 0.1m standard. With the m2 HD achromat its almost the front of the achromat itself.

It will focus closer than 10 centimeters. From the owner's manual, page 35: "The camcorder uses the TTL (through the lens) autofocus system with a focusing range of 2 cm (0.8 in.) (at wide-angle from the front of the lens barrel) to infinity." At full wide angle, take the lens hood off and you can focus right on the glass practically. It's a built-in macro function, just like other Canon camcorders.
