I have just been reviewing somethings, and their game plan is becoming more obvious.
The quality of the 50mb/s AVC-I should at a minimum as good as 1440 under AVCHD, but have 10-bit. I suspect that 1440*1080i AVCHD will be limited in bit rate, that we won't see 24mb/s in AVCHD unless it is in 1920 or high frame rate progressive mode. I suspect they have sacrificed resolution and used 4:2:0 in 50mb/s to keep codec quality up compared to DVCPROHD.

Fortunately, the 1,920 x 1,080, 100-Mbps format is 4:2:2. Now, if only Panasonic offered a 200-Mbps, 4:4:4 format!

Yep, that would be good.

If I was not on the list for a RED, this would like like a hell of a camera and I would buy it!

A comparison of picture quality at 1080p and 720p would be interesting. But I would not put it past Red to get twice as good quality out of their wavelet system (not that well notice it that much).
Some enterprising person could probably get their hands on a tester of the Pana to do a comparison.
