Hello,
I have a Canon XL-H1 that I use the Letus35XL adapter on
This unit doesn't need rods and it sits on a Manfrotto 501 (3433).

Problem sometime is panning and tilting smoothly because of the way it sits on the head, since it is so front heavy
I don't think would rods help center this, would they?

Ideas?

Thanks,
J

Buy the tripod plate system for the XL cameras...that will help you a lot.

Wade,
Thanks, but what is that exactly?
Is it Canon made?

Yes, Canon part number TA-100.

Your tripod plate screws into the bottom of this plate...you can see by the many holes that you can place it so your camera will be balanced properly.

This piece mounts to the bottom of the camera, allowing it to lock onto the large plate that is now mounted to the tripod.

I actually have two of these that I no longer use and would be willing to sell. Email me at extremesound@gmail.com if you are interested in a slightly used one (as seen in the pictures)

Or you could make one

See my post: Canon XL1/XL1s watchdog--Long lens support, this would
allow you to move the camera back to get a balance point
