Just in case anyone that uses VDub wants to make their deinterlacing/slowmotion process easier (without the need of AVISynth) I wrote a plugin that you can download here:

http://www.geocities.com/headlesspuppy/stuff/vdub_60p.zip

Included are instructions on how to do it (pretty simple) and also a settings file that will have everything set up for you.

You can also use this to convert PAL 50i to 50p.

Thanks. How does the plugin work?

To have the actual plugin appear on the filter list inside VDub you'll need to extract/copy the VDF file to 'vdub dir/plugins', just like with any other plugin.

The 60p.txt file explains how to set up a project inside VDub, it's pretty simple. Or you can just load the VCF file from VDub File menu, Load processing settings option.

Let me know if you got any problems..

I second Seun's question: what type of deinterlacing does it do?
I use Virtualdub to resize my HDV footage before having TMGPnc (sp?) export as MPEG and really love the program. I don't know too much about deinterlacing footage, but my understanding is that there are a number of different ways, some with much better results than others.

I don't do the deinterlacing myself. As it's explained in the txt file you need to use the internal deinterlacer from VirtualDub to seperate both fields. After that my filter comes into action and transforms the fields into frames with their default aspect ratio, 720x240.

You can then use any resize filter you want to stretch the fields to 480. There are clever deinterlacers that do motion differencing etc. but they are for 60i->30p.

I'm also working on a 60i->24p converter for VDub but it will probably use a similar technique.

Search for the Virtualdub "Smooth Deinterlace" plugin ;)

I have tried the smooth but I am getting an error. I hear it is very good for 60i --> 50p but I get an error each time and can not get any support on it.

I think I am having a problem with the DivX compression codec?

I really have no idea. But I need a good solution for this.
