I have been shooting with the FX1 a lot recently, and I find that I'm using the handle at the top 99% of the time when I am shooting handheld. I'm curious about the hard-drive unit that will sit on top of the V1U in the accessory shoe.
I guess this is a question to those of you who have seen both these items together on the camera, so... does the hard drive get in the way of using the camera this way? I'm very concerned cause holding the camera that way is essential for me to get good handheld stability.

i'm 99% sure that the DR60 mounts AHEAD of the handle so it doesn't get in the way at all.
i've seen pic sof the DR60 mounted on V1 and thats my firm recollection.
EDIT: Actually it looks like a slightly tighter fit in the pic Chris (below) provided tha i thought.
But i'd say you can still easily slip your hand under the horizontal handgrip without impediment.

Check out this site from Sony for methods of mounting:

Its a pity you can't power it from the camcorder's battery.

Brian: It uses the same Sony batteries you use on your Sony Camcorder. Those batteries are better than anyones, in my opinion. So running both off of one battery would mean having to stop to change batteries more often.

True. But it would be a nice option anyway IMO. Would make the hard drive unit lighter and less cumbersome, and you'd only have to monitor one battery instead of two. One less thing to worry about.
