Actually I think the consensus is the new Duo Core Intels are the latest best for video editing performance according to most on this forum.

Hi Marco,
I was in the same situation and went with the 4800 x2 after the major price drop. I'd rather spend a smaller amount of bucks for just the AMD Dual Core and just do the upgrade when the Intel Quad CPUs are available. No processor "hotfixes" were needed .
It would have been cool for AMD to make their energy-efficient CPUs available in the 939 socket instead of the new AM2 socket. I would have given AMD more money just to save a year's worth of electricity running 30 watts and running my computer slightly cooler.

Yes, there is, but mainly for gamers. Name is: AMD Dual-Core Optimizer
You should not need this for Vegas as Vegas uses the Windows API. If you still want it:

You DO want the following:
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.3.1

Thanks for that link to the Italian site. I didn't realize that there was anything to upgrade when moving to AMD X2. From the list, I really don't see much that will help with performance on Vegas. Which update does that ? I don't see any descriptions that will help increase performance unless its power/voltage adjustment .
Here is the US site:
