Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and have been doing wedding videography since 2002. I'd like my first post to be a contribution instead of a question.

People ask us all the time what equipment we use, so I've compiled a nice list which can be viewed at the following link.

We put a tremendous amount of thought into the equipment we choose, so if you want to use the same equipment in your video productions, we think this would be very helpful!

As technology changes, so will the list, so check back to see what's hot when you want to upgrade.

I'd love to hear more wedding videography equipment suggestions and what you use it for to add to the list.

If you are just starting out and have some working capital, I'd suggest leasing equipment. That way you don't have to spend all your working capital and you can upgrade whenever you want. Hey, are you from the same Monster Crayons that did the STARS DVD a while back? Did you actually shoot that with the FX1?

Hi Chris,

Yes. I do remember working on the stars DVD. I wasn't one of the camera operators though. I did some DVD authoring for it after it was edited. It was shot with a Sony DCR-VX2100. We are upgrading to the the FX1 for all our 2007 events since clients started asking more frequently if we shoot HD.

Hello...back in October of '06, you were kind enough to share your "tools" of the trade as it were in the context of wedding videography. Like you, I purchased an FX-1 but back in '05 and have been using it extensively for weddings and sports (swim meets). For the low light situations when you don't have lights, I wish I had the VX2100 or PD170 on hand but, that's the trade off, I guess. Anyway, I was wondering if you could share with us what audio equipment you use for recording the wedding ceremony, toasts, etc. besides the onboard microphone of the cam and the Sony external microphone. I'm looking at the Edirol or Zoom USB recorders to record audio seperately from the cam. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Anthony!

Glad you took a look at our list. I added the audio equipment that we use. It's called an iRiver. We connect those Azden lapel mics to it and it records directly to a flash drive in mp3 format, then we sync it up to the video in post.

We use it for:
- groom
- officiant
- musicians
- readers
- reception

iRiver doesn't make that particular model that records to mp3 from a lapel mic anymore, so you'll have to buy a refurb or used one.

Hi Arniel...thanks for your suggestion on the IRiver recorder. I have another question though....what NLE software do you use and what do you recommend for after effects software to really make the video "pop".

We use Final Cut Pro as our NLE. We actually don't do too much to our wedding videos as far as special effects. We stick to the philosophy that simple is beautiful, so the only effects we do are dissolves, fades to and from black, slow motion, and titles.
