Hi:

They are okay and I have read a couple of reviews on the web that agree. Not as good as Kinos but about half of the price. Light leaks around the bardoors where they attach to the main body, construction quality is okay but not great.

They are about what you pay for, better than homemade but not as good as the Kinos or Moles.

Best,

Dan

I've looked at so many of these kinds of lights.....

Basically the main thing that's going to determine the quality of the light is the tubes. Some are using the Osram tubes and even their ballasts but lately I've seen knock off ballasts (or worse) and Chinese made tubes. However the major cost in these types of lights is the metal work. So even if you get dudded on the lamps and to a lesser extent the ballasts these are easily enough replaced with the good stuff. So long as the metal work is rugged enough for your needs they can amount to a significant saving.

One problem with many of these, even the expensive one is the barn doors are made of a reflective material, only Lowell and Kino seem to have got this right. What happens is as you close the barn doors the light spreads more, brilliant! Still easy enough to fix. Quick and dirty way, cover the things with strips of gaff tape, better still, spray them matte black!
