I wanted some advice on the better of the two mics to record voiceover and acapella songs at home, the two mics are the rode NT3 or studio projects C1

about finding the Audio Technica U873R having

There's a number of options for VO depending on voice of the talent. Large condensor studio mics like the Rode NT1a, NT2a, or Broadcaster work well with many voices and would be more commonly used for VO than hypers like the NT3. The NT3 has an excellent reputation but some find it a bit thinner and brittle sounding than might be desired for narration. Also, the classic mainstays for voice-over work and broadcast announcing are studio dynamic mics like the Electrovoice RE20 and RE27. Because they don't have the proximity effects on frequency response that most condensors exhibit, dynamics can give more consistency to the tonality of the reading, something important for narration.

I really appreciate the responses, do you think i would be able to get away with using the same mic wor accapella songs and poetry? or would i need a different mic?

It's more the characteristics of the voice than the nature of the material. Same mics should be fine IMHO.

As Steve said you might want to consider a large diaphram condenser. We use the RODE NT2-A mic for VO here and at the LA office. Very nice, thick, detailed sound. If you'd like to hear a sample listen to the "Litepanels LED" episode at http://dvgeartalk.com
That's recorded from about 3 inches away.
Instead of a pop filter, we use the RODE WS2 windscreen and the SM2 shockmount. It's a sweet package worth considering.
I've heard that Madonna has recently used the NT2-A down in Mexico at a studio where they could of picked mics costing much more, so I think it just might do for acapella :)
