View Full Version : AspectHD freezes/locks up Premiere when loading?

I installed AspectHD after Ppro 2.0. When an AspectHD project loads, the splash screen comes up, but then immediately locks up Premiere. I have to force quit out every time. I filed a trouble ticket, but I was just curious if anyone had this problem before and had a solution? I already tried uninstalling Ppro, uninstalling AspectHD, etc. It's odd because I did a completely new installation of Windows and then an installation of Ppro and Aspect and had a problem...I also already tried the whole cntrl+shift or shift key thing when booting Ppro.

Re-download Aspect HD 4.2.1 just in case, and try again. Although we haven't heard of this error, we did some installer improvements a few days ago that may help. Note: we are in the middle of moving to a new office so your ticket may not be addressed until Monday.

I had a similar problem too. Sometimes Premiere locked up immediately, sometimes - after a couple minutes of playing/editing. Well, I uninstalled 4.21 version and installed 4.13 - now it works perfectly. Hope a new update will solve this issue.

Please download 4.2.1 again as you might be missing a key component.

I see 4.22 Build 68 is now up on the Cineform site:
http://www.cineform.com/products/AspectHDPPro.htm#UpdateLog

Doesn't mention the installer update but presumably would be incorporated? Worth a try in any case.

BTW, moving sucks. Best wishes getting settled into your new digs. Also would like to commend and congratulate the Cineform team for publically posting each new build along with a list of the fixes and added features. That's a great help to us customers!

Nope. Still freezes up. The splash screen says ProspectHD ??

I should mention that I also have Ppro 1.5 installed and AspectHD works fine on it. It's 2.0 that has a problem.

I've about given up on it with PPRO 2.0. I've tried it a few times now, once after a full Windows re-install....I can't get it to work.

Really? Wade, do you have the same problem I'm experiencing? Or a different incompatibility?

We moving office and I bad 4.2.2 version got out. We will fix this Monday as most of our internal servers are down today. In the meantime I put 4.2.1 up again in place of the 4.2.2 download. Next week life will return to normal as we setting in to our upgraded office space.

Ah, thanks for that. I just powered up my editing box to download 4.2.2. Will wait a couple days!

There shouldn't be any incompatibility...

It's corrupting my Adobe preferences file and causing Premiere to lock up and freeze on anything I try to do. To get PPro to work again, I have to uninstall the cineform software, delete the preferences file, restart the system, then open Premiere (it will be recreate the preferences file).

I've been a Premiere user since version 5, and when it came time to build an HDV system I took a long hard look at all of the possible solutions. I went with Premiere banking on getting this Cineform software...I'm not really impressed right now, but I hope their problems are fixed soon.

As we don't have any other reports of this you need to speak with tech support. So at the moment we have no bug to fix. The preferences file can be refreshed by holding shift down while Premiere starts.

I'd love to speak with your tech support, as I really need this to work, but they don't answer the phone and won't return a call after I've left messages.

Is this the correct phone number? (760) 804-5905

Do you have the extension I could enter?

Thanks for your help David...I appreciate it!

No that not the number. I don't know the new number, but the number should be on the web site. It is best if you use www.cineform.com/support and file a trouble ticket. Processing is faster, phone message are handled after the online support tickets.

I'm having the same probs with the new download as well. Have installed and uninstalled twice, but have gone back to the 4.13 as well. It worked perfectly.

I think the prob is in the new effects somehow. It freezes up instantly as soon as I try to do anything in PP2

Hope it's just a little glitch.

As we don't have any other reports of this

PPro 2 is choking for me too. Will try reverting to an older release of Aspect.

Best,
Christopher

Please, if this is a fault, file a trouble ticket. We need to determine is there is anything common with your systems as it is working fine for everyone else. Reporting only here does not help, as the ticket system allows use to compare system configurations, and actually track support issues. We are likely completing the 4.2.2 build late tomorrow, so get you tickets in tomorrow morning.

Just to reiterate:

The problem seems to be with existing productions. I haven't tried 4.2.2 with a new production yet, but will later today, if possible.

Irregardless, that would be the pits for correcting any older productions...

I have the same problem in new 4.21.67a version. Premiere locks and immediately disappears on start..

How will we know that v4.22 Build 68 is available for download?

I received a response back to my ticket...they said it's not Cineform related since it is happening in non-cineform projects.

Not the case....If Cineform is installed, it's immediately corrupting my preferences file. After I uninstall it, delete the preferences file, and restart Premiere, it's fine.

If Cineform is installed, Premiere WILL NOT WORK, no matter the project.

We completing a build now, yet these weird reports of the Premiere issue may delay it. Why a version that went through a public beta and then released for two weeks should suddenly have an issue has us scratching our heads. If it works on our test systems 4.2.2 will be posted today (with figures crossed.) For those having issues with 4.2.1, make sure you uninstall older CineForm tools before installing new software.

I've installed 4.22 build 69 - special thanx to Tim Bucklin.
And should say everything works perfectly from now!!! (at least for me)
Go try it!

Thanks Anton,

hoping other will experience the same, however build 69 is not official yet (still have the wrong splash screen in that build.) Still looks like the official build will be ready today. I will post here when it is.

OK Aspect HD 4.2.2 build 69 is now posted, cosmetic splash screen bug is fixed. Now to determine if the other issues are gone as it was for Anton. It is still under the old link and file name "AspectHDv422b68dl060928.zip" as the guy who normally posts the build is out of the office today. So please download this again. Inside this zip file you will find the new version "AspectHD-4.2.2.69-Setup-Download.exe"

Please tell us how this goes.

David, it's crazy, but I uninstalled Cineform Aspect 4.13 again, the third time, then this time opened a new project file after reinstalling the new 4.2.2.

Everything seemed normal, so I reopened a previous project file and only had to re-render the previous Cineform transitions and it worked flawlessly.

All is normal again...and looks good. Thanks for a great product.

What a relief. Thanks for the feedback. Now it seems we have a stable version we can get back to developing the next generation stuff.

I just now re-downloaded AspectHDv422b68dl060928.zip, but it does not contain AspectHD-4.2.2.69-Setup-Download.exe. Instead it contains AspectHD-4.2.1.67a-Setup-Purchase.exe.

EDIT: I think my browser may have cached the previous copy. I used a different browser and was able to download the updated file.

Nope, even with this new version Premiere and Cineform continue to give me this same problem.

Ben, you must have a different issue as others are being helped. Please follow up on your ticket so we can find a solution.

In the email from Cineform in response to my ticket they did give me directions on how to completely manually uninstall all of the Cineform software. I will try that this afternoon and reinstall the new version.

I'm hoping it works!

Thanks again for your help, David!

Can Aspect HD affect Quicktime playback? It may be a coincidence, but since installing build 67, some of my QT mov files will not play, and others have audio/video sync problems. Upgrading to build 69 did not resolve this problem. Still having problems with PPro 2 as well; Cineform tech support is investigating.

Best,
Christopher

Aspect HD and QuickTime have no connection.

The two most recent builds of Aspect have put me through the Premiere Pro 2 freeze and hangup at the Aspect splash screen as well. Previous projects (created with previous Aspect builds) are fine. Attempts to create new projects with Cineform parameters freeze at Premiere/Cineform splash screen.

How can I access an older, more reliable build? I don't archive them. It sounds like 4.13 is a good one to revert to?

Gone are the days that I arbitrarily update my software. If the update doesn't include fixes or features I need, I'm staying put.

Update - A Workaround?: If I open a previous Cineform/PPro2 project (created prior to 4.21), then open a new project created with the recent build of Aspect, the project opens and functions properly.
