I just wanted to say hello from my part of the world. I'm just getting into film editing, mostly short promotional stuff for my business. I've been using Windows Movie Maker and 2 Sony TRV-17's with 1 external Rode Mic. I will be moving to 2 to 4 Sanyo HD1's and maybe a second Mic for some really cool in car and driving footage. I just purchased Vegas 6, so I am learning that, and have found a ton of info in this site. I just wanted to say thanks, and anyone in the Frederick/Baltimore/DC area that wants to do some cool car (in or out) of some pretty fast cars, please contact me, I'm always up for learning. Thanks.

Thought I'd just jump in and say hi too. Just joined from Baltimore, MD. Studying Film at Villa Julie and working at a company doing videos for them using a Sony VX2100, Final Cut Express, a Rode Videomic (which I just ordered after hearing good things about it from this site). Been doing this for about 3 years now, give or take.

Hi,

I'm in Towson, MD. I grew up in Frederick. Lived on East Church and East 2nd Streets, went to N. Market St. Elementary and St. Johns before my folks moved us to Annapolis.

I'm a migrating studio and location audio guy. Migrating because I'm now shooting with a Canon XL2 and beginning to edit on FCP 5.1.2.

I also do pro level narration.

Looks like there are more of us around than I knew. Maybe after the first of the year we could plan a get together.

Anyone headed for DV Expo in DC next week? I'll be going down with editod/shooter friend Bob Cole.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Michael or anyone
Now that you have used Vegas 7 for a while, what do you think. Have you used Mac based editing programs? How do they compare?

What's great about DV Info is the free and easy swap of help and information between its members. You'll make great friends and learn alot as well as contribute your personal expertise, especially with car footage.

I used to live in Dundalk ("Dundahhhk", in Ballimer County, hon!). Charm City and its surrounding area makes a great backdrop for any production. I look forward to seeing your work, especially your car stuff since that's pretty sophisticated in any production.

Vegas is a great program! Good choice!

Good luck and once again, welcome aboard!

I'm Daniel and I currently live in Annapolis.

I have a Canon XL1 and also a Sony VX2100.
I have multiple tripods, some lighting equip, and an array of technical skills.

If anyone needs a hand, I'd gladly help with anything. (that goes for acting, DP, writing, directing).

Surprised to see so many Maryland names on here.

I've been lurking here for a few weeks and getting so much good info I decided to come out.

I just bought a Canon XH A1 and am loving it. My background includes photojournalist and multimedia developer. I recently got laid off and am making the jump to video.

Anybody need a B roll shooter?

Hi Folks,

I'm posting this here because there are a lot of local folks on this string. I'm working on another Audio Bootcamp session and am planning to have the class here (Towson, MD) at my studio.

It's a four hour class devoted entirely to figuring out how to get better audio for your shoots. Bring your gear and bring your questions. I'll go over the required audio gear and how best to use it and how to make it work with your camera; shotguns, hypers, lavs, mixers, booms, levels, mixer/camera calibration.

This is a very hands on/ears on session. Bring your headphones. Last time I did it here we had folks all the way from Richmond, VA and everybody walked away feeling more confidant about their audio.

$150 and that includes a copy of the Audio Bootcamp Field Guide.

I'm assuming that mid-day weekend would be best, but a 1-5 would work as well. Does anyone have a preference for saturday versus sunday? I have more sundays than saturdays available, but I may be able to find a saturday.

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Hey everybody, I'm in Bowie, MD. Great to see this thread is still going...

While I'm here, does anyone know of any "urban settings" in the Gaithersburg/Silver Spring/Rockville areas? A friend of mine who's a hip-hop dance instructor has her studio there and wants to do a photoshoot (no video) of her dance class consisting of headshots and action shots. She's looking for settings that have a gritty look. Only thing I can think of are train tracks, graffitti walls, loading docks, run-down streets etc.. I've considered Baltimore and D.C., but would like to keep it closer to her studio IF possible. Any location ideas you may have would be great, thanks!
