Hey guys, I've noticed on occasion I get a blurry motion if I have a locked down shot and a fast moving object. Almost a ghost-like image (1 image becomes 2). I output all my 24 F footage through firewire, so this cannot be a 3:2 pulldown issue. Is this just typical HD motion blur? Any thoughts? I've included 2 samples.

Hi Brad. Looks like motion blur to me, especially the second pic with the moving head. You can see the streaks formed by the eyes sweeping which you wouldn't get with interlace or pull down artifacts.

Video is more forgiving of motion blur than stills, but if this comes out too blurry on the actual video, I think you will need a faster shutter speed (or a subject that doesn't move so violently).

Thanks Richard, makes me feel better. I'l deal with a little blur here and there, but a 3:2 pulldown removal on 17 hours of footage is, at this point, a no-go. Thanks again.

Hi Brad. What are you using for editing? Some editors (e.g. Vegas) do the pulldown removal on the timeline, so you don't need to go through a separate step to do it. Does your NLE have the option to show you the clip properties? That should tell you whether there is pulldown or not.

Regarding the blur, hopefully it's not too bad for most of the footage. If you're already editing 17 hours of material, I guess it's too late to talk about faster shutter speeds!

I'm cutting on Avid Xpress Pro 5.5. My clip are DnX 220 running at 23.98 frames per second. Thanks again for the help Richard, it's helping me sleep better!
