View Full Version : updated footage
Douglas Spotted Eagle September 21st, 2006, 05:33 PM Please revisit the footage on the VASST site; new footage, shows the 30X zoom that Michael and Boyd saw, and is 23.976 with pulldown, so you can do with it what you want. It's still recompressed, but from a higher quality master file.
Chris Barcellos September 21st, 2006, 07:25 PM Played great on VLC, but had playback choppiness on Media Player.
So where do you think the digit zoom kicked in ?
Awesome footage. The boot detail is fantastic.
Douglas Spotted Eagle September 21st, 2006, 08:04 PM Chris, the digital zoom doesn't "kick in" it's simply on or off, and acts as part of the extension. If you mean "where in the shot does the optical quit and the digital take over?" I'd suggest it's about where you see mostly the pilot's body in the full frame and then it goes to boots and butt.
Chris Barcellos September 21st, 2006, 08:11 PM Cool.
I'm assuming you held the camera and/or shot the footage. If I am mistaken, I apologize. So is it like on the VX2OOO where you have a "cue" in the viewfinder that tells you when you gotten into digital zoom range? Not that it seems to matter in this case-- I couldn't tell the difference.
Douglas Spotted Eagle September 21st, 2006, 11:04 PM Yes I did, and yes it's handheld and no, there is no indicator that you've gone from optical to digital. Nice idea though. I never shot the VX, so hadn't considered that particular feature. To be honest, I was completely skeptical when I was told of this feature a couple months ago. It sounded completely bogus. When the product manager said "No kidding, it's pretty good," I decided to shoot a bunch of footage with it just to see what it would do. In the LCD panel, you can't tell at all, and if you really zoom in deeply in a photo editing application, you can't tell either. So, I'm sold on it as being a nice tool in the box to have.
Darrell Essex September 22nd, 2006, 09:17 AM I must be missing something. Where is a direct link to the footage?

FIRST CINEMA PICTURES
Bob Zimmerman September 22nd, 2006, 09:22 AM I think you have to sign in. I did but my mac can't open them. Maybe you have to buy QT PRO.
Sean Woods September 22nd, 2006, 09:24 AM You've got to register first when you click on 'Read' then you'll see the article with the footage.
Piotr Wozniacki September 22nd, 2006, 09:52 AM The footage plays well in VLC, even on a lousy PIII 1 GHz laptop!
What I don't like is the color of the sky - grain and smudges. Why?
Bob Zimmerman September 22nd, 2006, 09:58 AM I downloaded VLC but,,,,,,nothing!!
Paulo Teixeira September 22nd, 2006, 03:39 PM Bob Zimmerman,
Have you tried DIVX yet? It should play the file perfectly fine on a MAC.
http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Bob Zimmerman September 24th, 2006, 04:19 PM I don't know what that did but my mac had a fit after putting that in. I had to trash it.
what is m2t? Whatever that is I can't open it. Spot can you do a few quicktime files or something?
Paulo Teixeira September 24th, 2006, 05:19 PM You mean you had a problem using DIVX? .M2T is just an extension for RAW HDV video files. You should try changing the extension from .m2t to .mpeg and then play the file.
Bob Zimmerman September 24th, 2006, 06:27 PM yes DIVX like lock up everything.
Bob Zimmerman September 24th, 2006, 06:39 PM maybe I'll try downloading it again. Nothing works from the VAAST site.
