I have the PROAT, which also has an accessory mount bar. If you don't need that then look at the PROT. Or the SHIM if it fits your tripod.

Hi John,

Sounds like you need a "Bottom Loader" fix up. If so, I've simply made my own for my two Bottom Loader Sonys. A D-8 and a Mini-DV unit. Sent me a PM with your E-Mail, and I'll send you pics. You should be able to make your own on the cheap.

I actually prefer the Cavision one over the DeMaagd one, as the Cavision one has several advantages over the DeMaagd accessory.

What are the several advantages of the Cavision adapter? I am also trying to decide which adapter to purchase.

I have the Cavision one, it's tiny and only rises the camera about 3/4 inch. It may not work for you if you are putting the camera directy on a tripod with a large mounting surface, but using it with the Cavision rod kit that I have, it works well. Very small and concise, much less intrusive than the others I've seen.

I should point out that due to it's fairly small size and small L-shaped surface which the camera rests on, when I cinch down the camera on the rods set-up, it tends to pull the camera into a slightly un-level state, pulling down on the 'empty' side of the adaptor, the right-hand tape-eject side. I almost think the adaptor could use an extended 'c' shape base for the camera to rest on rather than the 'L' shape it has. Again, a flaw in the entire Sony/A1U 'bottom-loading' design is making the adaptor necessary in the first place, so it's likely a losing battle all of these adaptors have to face.

It's a well-made black anodized aluminum CNC'ed piece, and it's affordable; if I recall it was about $35 US, and Cavision has been a helpful company to interact with.

I have the same problem with Bill and the cavision one in that it pulls everything up. I have bought the other one mentioned earlier. It's more substantial. It will interesting to see how they compare
