Has anybody an idea of building a rod support system the DIY way?

Would appreciate any help. I´m from Germany and cannot buy the expensive cavision rods.

Here is my first attempt to build a rod system. Very easy nothing special.
The rods are 16mm diameter / 500mm long.

Habe die Halterungen aus MDF-Platten gefräst.
Ich komme aus der Münchner Umgebung woher kommst Du?

Ich studiere zur zeit in Regensburg, komme aber ursprünglich aus Potsdam bei Berlin.

Wusste gar nicht, dass sich hier auch Deutsche rumtreiben. Habe hier auch noch keinen mit 35mm Adaptern gesehen.

OK, here is a very basic do it yourself idea: I've started building a rod system this way, it worked pretty well, but if I get the SG Pro, I don't need one as it comes with the adapter.

Get Patex Power Knete (no clue how this is called in UK / US, but it is a two component plastic material that is made for glueing or modeling)

Go to a DIY shop like "Praktiker" or "Bauhaus" (German version of B&Q)
Get aluminium rods. They sell them with 12mm or 15mm diametre.
Get small nuts and bolts.

Take a plane surface (eg glass) that can get dirty and put some grease or similar stuff (eg "nivea" lotion) on it. Put also some nivea or similar on the aluminium rods.

Form the "power knete" (1 pack, 64grams) to one big flat blob (like when you bake cookies). Work on it some more to become a flat rectagular surface of roughly 4 times 8 centimetres, 0.5 cm high.

Put it on the surface.

Put the rods on top, with a distance of 4 to 5 cms. Align them.

Flip the edges of the "power knete" to go around the rods and go into the material on the other side.

Now, while the stuff is still soft, put the little nuts and bolds in, so they touch the rods with the one end but show out of the "power knete" on the other. These are the tightening screws.

Let dry.

Drill a hole to attach the camera with a tripod mount screw.

Build the other parts of the rod support system in the same fashion.

And if above was not so clear (apologies from my side), just imagine you are 5 years old again and you model you rod support sleighs with Play Doh ("Knete"). I'll post a picture of my creation to illustrate, but unfortunately I don't have it here, so it will be next weekend.

Ok, just a very DIY idea, very cheap (Patex Power Knete is around 7,50 EUR per pack, the two rods were 5 Euros ish).

oh no ... I was posting all this stuff and now Daniel has got excellent equipment at home...

In this case, forget about the play-doh option ;-)
