View Full Version : Calfornia Anyone!? (SSF)
Jonathan Jones September 28th, 2007, 10:38 PM Napa/Petaluma area?
I'm now at school in Davis, though. So.. West.
Yeah, I'm still a little bit north of Petaluma. About 25 minutes straight up the 101, and then about 2 minutes to the right.
I was just in Davis last week.

Thomas Barclay November 2nd, 2007, 12:08 PM Hello All,
My name is Thomas and I am completely amateur at shooting. I'm trying to get into a career into editing. I work on a FCS2.
I own a Sony HDR-HC1 and a pretty decent lighting kit. I want to move up to a Canon XH-A1. I typically shoot on tripod since my hands shake more than the last earthquake.
I'd love to see a comparision between compressed and uncompressed video.
I'm currently working on my portfolio but would love to share skills.

Leonard Wong November 5th, 2007, 09:55 AM Yet another newbie checking in. I am in Mountain View now, but will be moving into Belmont later this month. Just looking to learn more about the industry all together.
I bought an HV20 a few months ago, and just learning so much about cinematography all together.

Garrett Low September 11th, 2008, 12:53 AM Hi Brian,
I'm up in Novato so I'm too far from you. I'm not a pro at it but I'm trying to learn as much about cinematography as I can. Right now I do local dance recitals, plays, festivals. My primary camera is a Canon XH A1 and I use an HV20 as my backup B cam. I also have a Sony D50 for sound as well as an Edirol FA-101 and some Rode mics that I take into my laptop for sound.
If you ever have a project you're working on and you need some help shooting let me know. I'd love to get into making aq short or comercials.

Cool, that's what my friend uses who I shoot with. His low light management is poor. Is it the same situation with you or have you found ways around that?
Garrett Low September 12th, 2008, 11:32 AM Low light isn't great but it is better than other HDV cams I've seen and definately better than CMOS based cams. I have pushed the gain to +6 in extreme situation but don't like to go above +3. I shoot a lot of stage shows and one of the last ballet shows had two numbers where the stage was only lit by a few dim red lights. I had to go to +6 on the gain and came out with some useable footage.
I have also recently did some fireworks down in Disneyland and at the Marin County Fair. They actually turned out great.
