Just saw Blackmagic has introduced a HDMI capture card for around $249. Will capture uncompressed full res from your source apparently.

Robert I am new to the industry. I have a JVC GY 100 and a g5 quad pro using FCP. I also have a DR-HD100 firestore.
I was hoping to be able to teach myself as I go along with teaching manuals etc. but right now I'm feeling very much bogged down with all the workarounds and uncompatability issues.
Does this black magic card illiminate all of that?
Is this the Panacea I'm looking for?
Any guidance much appreciated.

No JVC HD cam has an HDMI output yet. Only one new Sony model does. Unless you are looking for uncompressed capture as opposed to standard HDV, which the cam records to tape, I wouldn't think any form of uncompressed capture is going to help you.
Unfortunately the work arounds you need to perform in regards to working with the JVC stem from your choice of a Mac FCP platform.
