View Full Version : Focusing Question
Alex Hall September 2nd, 2006, 04:32 PM I just recieved my XL2 with the 16x manual servo lens and .6x wide angle adapter. I set the back focus for the lens then added the wide angle adapter and I had to set it agian. Will I have to reset the back focus everytime I use the wide angle adapter?
Cal Johnson September 3rd, 2006, 10:07 PM Alex, if its at all possible, you should check your back focus every time you mount the lens.
Cheers.
Allen McLaughlin September 3rd, 2006, 11:55 PM How do you check the back focus on an XL lens ? Does the 16x have an adjustable rear element ?

Only the 16x manual lens has an adjustable back focus. The standard autofocus lens that comes with the XL2 doesn't have it.
EDIT: The (older) 14x manual lens probably has it too, but I don't know for sure.

Yes, the 14x lens has it to, and the adjustment is the same procedure.

Interesting, I had no idea. What does the 16x cost approximately ?

Depends on where you get it, but used about $600 to $800.

I've got one, it's a lot lighter than that 20x monster as well! About £1100 new.
Ash Greyson September 4th, 2006, 03:58 PM $600? Never seen one that cheap, you are looking $800 - $900 for a used one in good shape.

In fact, there's one listed in our classifieds now, asking price $950.
I sold my two 16X manual lenses for a bit less than that. Definitely a nice lens to have in the arsenal.

Yeah it looks like an economy version of the Canon lenses I use at work ? Personally I think it must be worth the money just for the manual focus. I'm a little bemused that they dropped the manual iris ring between the 14x and 16x models. That's also something I would consider to be an essential of a good lens set up...
