I have the new Canon Hi Def camera and have been able to hook it directly through my IEEE connecter to my notebook. All worked fine.
Now, suddenly though, when I connect the two, nothing happens. Preimier can't see the device, nor does DV RACK. I also can't see the device in the system folder. Anyone know of any issues? Did I accidently flip the wrong switch? Help!

First things first: replace your Fireware cable - I have already thrown one away.

There is a menu item to turn on the ieee port so it is possible to have turned it off. Also you should turn the port on before you connect the camera. This could be your problem. Check out Page 113 of the manual. Signal Set Up

Ok, thanks....I forgot to say that we've determined that the firewire cable is good, any other ideas?

Which Canon camera is this? Specific model number please.

Having had the same problem with IEEE, it was determined that my IEEE port in the H1 had a pin that was broken off by a defective cable input (new cable that came with a Firestore).

Suggest you do what the service rep at the Canon Factory Service desk did;

Take a pin flash light and magnifying glass and inspect your H1 firewire jack for bent or broken pins.

And I highly recommend Canon Factory Service (at least their Irvine, CA center) - they were top notch - 1 day repair that saved my tail.
