i read this on the 2-pop site earlier and although the details are sketchy canon has a new 5-100mm hd lens for 1/3" mounts as well as a couple of new 1/2" lenses. would this 1/3" lens be for the JVC and the H1? anyone have any details???

Chris?

I doubt it will work on the H1. This lens has a servo grip so it's probably only for the JVC. A Canon 1/3" lens for the JVC was expected in the fall. I first saw the announcement on Aug 24 at the Canon Japan site but there's no mention of it at Canon USA.

looking at the photo you linked they HAVE to make a version with no zoom rocker for the H1the 16x manual almost has a grap where the zoom motor and manual/servo switch are located,

am i the only one bothered by the fact that they would build an hd manual lens for jvc before the XL-H1?

I don't blame you for being bothered. It does seem like the optics for a 20x 1/3" lense are there so why not just adapt it to an XL mount? You would have to add ND filters to it though since the H1 camera body doesn't seem to have any, unlike the JVC which has a built-in filter wheel.

Also, it might be a business decision (speculation only) because the KT20x5B is suppose to be pretty expensive...well over $5K and maybe close to $10K, I think. It's also coming from the Broadcast divison of Canon.

the JVC is a cheaper camera though, so you'd think they'd be beter off going for the H1 owners who are probably more likely to be doing the higher end stuff, what with the uncompressed output and all. i could see spending 5-10k on the right lens for my h1, and no, there isn't an nd filter wheel on the canon body
