Anyone aware of someone that can convert the insides of these camcorders into block cameras? This would be used for a conferencing application. I would supply pan/tilt mechanism and housing for the unit. So in the end I end up using the sensor and lens, and then control zoom via lanc.

Might as well use the 310 head at that point, no? More money, but by the time you convert the housing and mate it all up, I don't know you'd be saving anything.

Ah, the Sony 310.

Way too big and the external lens would make it way way too big.

On the Z1/FX1 the entire form factor is much smaller including lens. If you take it apart (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=60134) the actual size of the sensor and lens is really small.

This is what I need.

What i need is to make this into a block camera, so I can add my own ptz. Something like

but in HD.

Are there folks that tale camcorders (sony or others) and convert to something like a block camera?

I dont think it is in big demand. The Hc1 and HC3 are about that size and Canon's new consumer HDV is tiny just get that dont buy a 3K camera just to strip it completely.
