View Full Version : Check out my 58mm bayonet mount adapter
Amit Sitapara August 22nd, 2006, 12:27 PM I'm a big fan of bayonet mount lens's because I'm always afraid of cross threading or something with screw mount lens's so this is a little something I invented, Basically on one side there is a bayonet mount similar to your lens hood and on the other side are 58mm threads. Now I can turn any 58mm screw mount lens into a bayonet mount. It locks in perfectly, stays in tight, 0% chance of it coming off without a good amount of force turning the lens counter clockwise.
Here are some pictures

The orange thing is just a little bayonet cap in case you keep your lens mounted to it at all times like I do. The gold line you see on the edge is to be lined up with the thin black line on your vx2_00/Pd1_0 and then you just push it in and turn. Very quick and very safe. I'm considering selling them if anyones interested, the price I had in mine is $35 including shipping. I know you'd think this would belong in the classifieds section but selling it isn't my big target here. I just want people to see it and get their opinions on it. If they wanna buy one, great, if not, at least give me your opinion on it, that's more important to me.
By the way...patent pending.
Chris Bolt August 22nd, 2006, 01:56 PM I would definently buy one... Would be great for swapping out WA lenses uber fast.. :-)
Amit Sitapara August 22nd, 2006, 02:17 PM That's the spirit Chris
anyone who wants one contact me via email at amitsitapara@gmail.com
I can ship the one you see in the picture there tomorrow if you like, one of them has been sold to someone on a differant forum.
Graham Bernard August 23rd, 2006, 02:24 AM Amit! Too clever . . excellent concept. I'd thought about this 2 years back? Congrats on taking your idea to its logical conclusion.
I've got a wide 58 and was thinking about a BC 2x TELE adaptor. But the bother and trouble of unscrew this and then BC that and then Screw back the other, kinda took the slickness out of it. But a Universal BC twist>snap for the Canon might just do it.
Very well done.
Amit Sitapara August 23rd, 2006, 03:09 PM Yes I hope to make one for the Canon GL/XM 1 and 2 (all have identical bayonet mounts I'm pretty sure) as soon as I get access to either of those cameras.
Tom Hardwick August 25th, 2006, 07:49 AM Yes, an excellent idea Amit, and I'm glad you posted here and not in the classified, which lots of us seem to be excluded from.
I bought a spare VX2k hood and hacked it about in an affort to bayonet on my wide-angle converter, and I'll send you some pictures via email.
tom.
Chris Hurd August 25th, 2006, 09:21 AM The only people "excluded" from our Classifieds area are new members with registrations less than 30 days old. This policy has dramatically cut down a lot of problems we were having in that forum, and has made it a much safer and more secure area to in which to buy and sell. When a new member has been around for awhile, proving that they're not "just passing through," the forum software automatically promotes them to Classifieds access.
If you have a problem with that, please discuss it with me offline via private email.
For Amit -- you have my full support on this. I've changed the thread title to make it a little more descriptive, and have made it a "sticky" at the top of the message index in order to give it more visibility. If there's anything more I can do to help you promote this, please let me know. Many thanks,
Amit Sitapara August 26th, 2006, 10:50 AM I really appreciate the sticky Chris. Thank you VERY much for the offer to help promote my bayonet adapter. If I think of anything I'll be sure to let you know.
Barry Richard February 11th, 2007, 06:15 PM if you're continuing to make these, I'm potentially interested in one for the XHA1 (72 mm)
thanks !!
