hey guys, i was just wondering if using DV tapes with those 4k IC chips will have any benefit when used in the XL2?

from what i can gather, its only really worth it if used in a high end camera?
what features on the XL2 benefit from using these tapes?

julian.

I used to use chipped tapes with my old Sony VX-9000 and whilst useful as source of information regarding tape data, I never really saw it as an essential.

Sorry but only some Sony camcorders can take advantage of those IC chips. The Canons can't even tell they're there. Save your money and don't buy those particular cassettes if you're using any Canon camcorder.

I probably should have said 'camera data'

The chips would record things like time and date, camera settings such as how much gain was in, where the iris was set etc etc.
