If you use old Nikkor lenses with the M2, a 24mm would be very nice.

Cassidy Bisher September 25th, 2006, 02:05 PM If you use old Nikkor lenses with the M2, a 24mm would be very nice. We actually tested out a 18 to 35mm variable focal length today and got some good results. Here is the exact lens. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1835.htm Cassidy Bisher September 25th, 2006, 02:07 PM Hey Fellas, What "wide" or "ultra-wide" lense would you suggest with the M2 adapter? I have been searching and unable to find an idea of what which I should get. If you fellas wouldn't mind just to give me a hand in letting know me what wide lense you suggest (brand & mm) I'd truly appreciate your help. Ohhh and what Matte box would recommend - I know some are pretty pricey!!! my best, Joey Dee For ultra wide a 14mm Nikon looks pretty good, we tested one out today, it was a bit extreme but would work if that was what you were going for. We use an indiesnap matte box. Cassidy Bisher October 11th, 2006, 07:49 AM Here's some more footage... http://www.motivitypictures.com/smoking_sections.html Cassidy Bisher October 20th, 2006, 01:49 PM Some more footage... http://www.motivitypictures.com/8_hour_rule.mov and yet some more! http://www.motivitypictures.com/the_last_dorito_web.mov Gene Crucean October 21st, 2006, 10:49 AM Cassidy those three videos are great. I love the editing on the last dorito. Sam Jankis October 22nd, 2006, 01:44 AM Looks good, sounds good, flows good... I liked them. Cassidy Bisher October 22nd, 2006, 04:36 PM Cassidy those three videos are great. I love the editing on the last dorito. Thanks Gene, to much nickolodean does that to your editing style... Dante Waters October 22nd, 2006, 07:23 PM David / Cassidy In that sample footage called the 8 hour rule what mic/audio setup did you guys use? Also was this footage just for fun, or did you actually do something for Doritos?? Well I do the shooting...and all I have to work with is one 4 GB card. And you say 2 8GB cards are useless. That would pretty much be concluding that my footage is worthless. Take a look at how long 35 mm film stock last. About the same amount of time as my 4 GB card. 10 min of record time. I have trained myself to be a very selective shooter and I would suggest that all of you who shoot with MiniDV do the same. It's very easy to get into the habit of just shooting everything and then deciding later. Try and do that with film and you'll get fired pretty quickly. I'm glad I only have a 4 GB card. It's called discipline. Cassidy Bisher October 23rd, 2006, 11:36 AM David / Cassidy In that sample footage called the 8 hour rule what mic/audio setup did you guys use? Also was this footage just for fun, or did you actually do something for Doritos?? we used the SENNHEISER MKH 418-S SHOTGUN Mic, and it was for Doritos, plus it was for fun. Randolph Duke October 24th, 2006, 12:40 PM I just ordered a M2- but I am still researching the lens issue. I read Nikons are the best. There are so many. B&H has new Nikkors for $200 - $300 They are auto focus - but I called and found out you can set focus and f-stop manually. So they should work- yes? Are they good quality? Thanks! Cassidy Bisher October 24th, 2006, 01:30 PM I just ordered a M2- but I am still researching the lens issue. I read Nikons are the best. There are so many. Thanks! yes you can set them manually, the good quality ones are more expensive. You can tell a difference though. Randolph Duke October 24th, 2006, 01:40 PM so in other words- I should stay away from the new Nikkors AF for $200- $400 ? Cassidy Bisher October 24th, 2006, 02:34 PM so in other words- I should stay away from the new Nikkors AF for $200- $400 ? well i have some of those and they look awesome, anything is better than the stock lens.. but some of the shots you saw here were using a 50mm nikkor AF for around 150 bucks. With a better lens you will get better resolution and less distortion. by all means get the better ones if you got the cash! Gints Klimanis October 24th, 2006, 02:47 PM so in other words- I should stay away from the new Nikkors AF for $200- $400 ? I don't have my RedRockM2 yet, but I have a lot of Nikkor lenses. I think that you will find greater utility with the "faster" (wider aperture = lower f/stop #) lenses. I have pretty much every fast Nikkor prime in the current AF lineup, and many aren't particularly sharp wide open. So, you need to stop down by 1 or two stops, which will put you in the f/2 to f/2.8 range. A Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 can be had for under $300 new, and it is noticeably sharper at f/2 than it's 50mm f/1.8 brother. Randolph Duke October 25th, 2006, 08:24 AM Great info- thans. One more thing- How do I attach a Chroziel Matte box to a Nikon lens that takes 52mm filters? On my HVX I use the 104-82 step ring- but I do not see a step ring for 52mm. Sam Jankis October 25th, 2006, 06:46 PM Great info- thans. One more thing- How do I attach a Chroziel Matte box to a Nikon lens that takes 52mm filters? On my HVX I use the 104-82 step ring- but I do not see a step ring for 52mm. You must use two more step-up rings... I have a 82mm-58mm and then a 58mm-52mm. You might be able to find 104mm-??mm and a ??mm-52mm, but I doubt you'll find a single ring solution for 104mm-52mm. This is why I went with a rails mounted matte box... you can just use a rubber or cloth donut. Mike Schrengohst October 25th, 2006, 09:27 PM we used the SENNHEISER MKH 418-S SHOTGUN Mic, and it was for Doritos, plus it was for fun. Cool, we just wrapped on some Frito-Lay projects using the HVX as well.... I live about 2 miles from the company HQ Ed Quinto October 26th, 2006, 06:34 PM what dolly system did you use for the video? John Godden October 26th, 2006, 09:25 PM so in other words- I should stay away from the new Nikkors AF for $200- $400 ? The 50mm F1.8 prime is excellent. You probably won't be dissapointed with the results. The 24mm F2.8 is also great and about $300 new. JohnG Dante Waters October 27th, 2006, 12:08 AM we used the SENNHEISER MKH 418-S SHOTGUN Mic, and it was for Doritos, plus it was for fun. I was telling my sound friend that it was just a shotgun He was telling me they probably used a plated mic to get it soo sharp and loud. Cassidy Bisher October 28th, 2006, 07:26 PM Well the reason it is so sharp and loud is because none of that was live... we did it all in post. Every noise you heard was recreated with the microphone pointed very close to the shoes, the cupboard door opening, and all the rest. It took some time, but to me sound is another way of making the visual experience more enriching... because you don't just watch a movie you listen to it as well, and the audio should be as good as the visual. I was telling my sound friend that it was just a shotgun He was telling me they probably used a plated mic to get it soo sharp and loud. Luc Meisel October 29th, 2006, 11:54 AM I have to say that I loved the footage! Really great considering that you created all this with whatever you had around. And made it compelling and emotional. Exceptional , I would say with more to come from your company I am sure! infact it makes me want to hire you guys! I am curious as to what HD monitor you were using upside down and what do you think the footage would look like with a really good HD lense. I would think that it is important to have a great lense to get the best resolution. And what do you think this would look like blown up? Could this setup be used for feature film like the DVX was? Cassidy Bisher October 31st, 2006, 09:56 PM Cool, we just wrapped on some Frito-Lay projects using the HVX as well.... It starts at frame: 00:02:13, you can see it fluttering in the branch all the way to 00:04:13... It seems more obvious where areas are out of focus. Maybe she was running a little slow that day? It seems timed with the shutter. Andrae Palmer February 6th, 2007, 09:30 AM Too bad you guys never won the Doritos superbowl contest. I'm presuming that you guys shot your ad for the contest. Good to hear from you guys (it's been awhile) What setup was used in the car steadicam? It is wonderful to see what you can do in a low budget production. The way to tell a low budget production with your films is like in this case is that you had no makeup artist to fix the shinny faces and office girls hair. I don't know in your neck of the woods, but a production like that here in Miami should cost no less than $10K. You don't find a lot of those, but you also don't find your kind of filming either. Andrae Palmer May 23rd, 2007, 06:59 AM I like this. one. Very tight presentation.. the only problem was that it seemed too dark. Especially on one side of her face when she was speaking.
