I have a Sony TRV38 vidcam that fell victim to the CCD problem back in April. After registering online, I mailed the camera to a repair center in Texas in May. It took about 2-3 weeks for it to be returned and from what I've seen so far they did a great job. Not only did they fix the CCD problem but they also repaired/replaced the hotshoe accessory plate that had come loose due to the oversized external mic (AT822) I'd been mounting to it.

I've only used the camera for a little bit of vacation video and it worked fine. I probably won't use it that much anymore for my main recording activities because while the Sony was broken I went ahead and bought a Canon GL2.

For me the Sony recall/repair process was about as painless as you could hope for* - it was completely free, they fixed the problem and did a little bit extra besides. I'm still a little burned out at Sony though since this was my second product in a row from them that ended up melting down due to a known defect but at least they fixed this. So I'm going to play with Canon for a while until I get peeved at them.

*The only "hassles" were packaging the camera for shipping and driving to the UPS store.

I had an old Canon ZR60 affected by the same recall.
Once I called it in with S/N, Canon sent me a pre-paid shipping label and everything. Repair was completed in about 2 weeks and camera has worked fine ever since.
