Ok, I am very confused on the whole 24fps import thing. I know that FCP 5 does not import 720p at 24fps, it only does 30fps. I bought Lumiere HD to help me import my 720p 24fps footage. And I tried it, it did import but... I want to make sure I am getting the best resolution and best picture from the import process.

So... does anybody know

1) What exact settings do I use in Lumiere to import 720p 24fps (Shot on a JVC GYHD100u) to get the best looking results, I dont' want to compress it, I want it as "HD" looking as possible.

Also....

2) What do I need to do differentely with 24fps in this whole process, I heard there is something about "pulling out an extra frame"? Or "3:2:2:3" pull down removal or something? What do I need to do to take advantage of the 24fps thing and make it look the most like film? Does Luimere do this, or FCP 5? I heard Cinema tools has a part to play as well?

I am really confused so somebody please help me, I'll mail you five bucks if you can.

Premiere Pro 2 has no problems with anything I've done with the HD100. Not sure if that is any help.

unfortunately i have to use FCP 5, thanks anyway.

The reason you got a response from a PC guy is because all of the Mac guys post in the "Final Cut for HD/HDV" sub-forum. Also, there are a lot of good threads on 720p24 workflow for FCP in the forum for the GY-HD100.

Here is the best workaround currently (and free):

- Download DVHSCap and MPEG STREAMCLIP.
- Use DVHSCap (or a firestore) and capture the .m2t file.
- Open the file in MPEG STREAMCLIP.
- Select either HDV 30 or AIC for the codec.
- Bring the Quality Slider to Best.
- Deselest the De-interlace check boxes.
- In the Frame Rate Box, enter 23.976.

In FCP use whichever Presest for AIC 30 or HDV 30 (depending on what you choose).

In the Sequence settings (Command 0), put the editing timebase to 23.98.

This seems like a long workaround but it is rather quick. The only time consuming thing is the conversion. You can also Batch Convert in MPEG STREAMCLIP.

Do you use Aspect or another HD "assistant" (I don't know what else to call it)? I understood that Premiere Pro 2 offered only 720p/30 support for the JVC. Are you fiddling with custom settings to achieve this?
