Bill Bill Grant May 30th, 2007, 07:36 AM Hey Bill, Does this need to be 24p? I am in Cola, and have vx2100s. I would be up for it if that's not an absolute requirement. Bill Bill Zens May 30th, 2007, 09:14 AM My bad, these projects will not be shot in 24P. I want the XL2 for its 16X9 capabilities and even then I'm not sure if that's what the customer wants. So, yes, the VX2100 I think would be fine. Bill Bill Grant May 30th, 2007, 09:25 AM Bill, I guess just let me know if you might be interested as the project gets closer. E-mail me at bill@grantphotovideo.com I would definately be interested. Bill Grant Grant Photo & Video Nicholas Tran June 1st, 2007, 12:18 PM Hey guys, Does anyone know a good place to rent an XH-A1 around the Los Angeles or Orange County area? I usually get my rentals from Samy's but they aren't carrying the model. Someone asked me to film an event for them and I need an extra camera. I would just buy another XH-A1, but I don't do events often so it might just go to waste... Any info will help. THANKS!!! Chris Hurd June 1st, 2007, 12:36 PM Two of our sponsors in the L.A. area should have XH rentals: Abel Cine Tech and Birns & Sawyer. Contact info is on our Sponsors page at http://www.dvinfo.net/sponsors Meryem Ersoz June 1st, 2007, 09:31 PM We have 2 jobs coming up which will require 4-6 shooters. While we're looking, we also want to expand our list of "go-to" freelancers, so even if we don't hire you immediately, we want to know about your availability, skill set, and interest. We prefer shooters using A1s, Z1Us, or FX-1s to make footage easier to match in post-production. Some of our jobs are somewhat dull and corporate, babysitting a fixed, locked camera. Some of them involve ultra sports and speed. You must have a Zen-like patience and appetite for both. We are looking for ultra-clean, properly exposed footage. These are primarily corporate and event jobs. You will also have to monitor your own sound. Sometimes you will shoot on our equipment, sometimes your own. So you must know cameras, not just your camera. Pay is $300-$500/day depending on your experience and our available budget, which can vary. Please be comfortable accepting jobs on both ends of that spectrum. E-mail me with a link to your demo reel. (It will help me if you let me know that you are responding to my DVinfo ad....) Joshua Fernandez June 2nd, 2007, 01:56 PM I highly reccoment using something like Celtx. (www.celtx.com) Yes, it is freeware, but you can find people in your immediate area, genre, time limits, etc. to share it with. That aside, I'd be happy to look it over. As for credentials, I write scripts, literature, tutor in college english, and read pretty much everything. Any interest message me, always happy to help where I can. Josh Joshua Fernandez June 2nd, 2007, 02:20 PM Grayson County College, Tx Looking for a few actors, a lighting technician, and a sound mixer. The idea is a mafia-style film for entry into one or more local (all of Texas is local) film festivals. Most of the actors/actresses will be college age, but this is by no means exclusionary. The whole thing is being shot on no budget aside from what the directors are putting into it (yes, two directors) so we cannot pay actors. Acting students, amatures, and people with equipment we can use are welcome. This is not steady, well-paying, or even assumed-to-be-paying work. At the current time the crew being put together has no venue, no contracts, and no current employers. Purely for the fame and glory. John Godden June 2nd, 2007, 05:30 PM Greetings I'd like to rent an HVX and P2 card in the Calabasas to Thousand Oaks area of So Ca. I'm looking for a local (Conejo Valley) pickup-return only so no west-LA or SF valley please. I only really need 1/2 rentals preferably on Fridays. Thanks JohnG Bill Davis June 4th, 2007, 07:40 PM I have a shooting gig in PA in a few weeks and I wouldn't mind adding an extra crew person to the mix. (I typically travel with gear and an experienced Camera Op - I need a general grip/tech extra set of hands.) This is absolutely a PAID gig. Probably a single day shoot, but if it runs to more than that I'll cover appropriate lodging etc. Northumberland is a drive from Philadelphia and the other big surrounding cities, so if anyone's interested - drop me an email and we can discuss rates/travel, etc. Bill Davis newvideo AT fastq (that's "fast" plus a lowercase Q) dot com. We are shooting primarily on Varicam. It's a visual-heavy show, so there should be some good learning potential. Most of the crew are from the episodic/feature world. Currently this is an unpaid position--the final budget is being worked and I hope to be able to liberate a little money for this position. Please send notes of introduction/resumes to intern@charlespapert.com; questions may be posted here. Thanks! Joshua Fernandez June 5th, 2007, 03:59 PM Can you post a link to your current site? What script did you use to get the animation to reverse when the mouse is taken off the button? It is very smooth. Jon R. Haskell June 5th, 2007, 08:36 PM I have 10 years travel and 6 years video shooting experience in Ecuador, Peru, NW Brazil, Belize, Honduras, some portions of Mexico. The bulk of my work is in remote jungle or rural settings, but can move around urban enviornments with no problem. I am available for work in these countries. I will be travelling all over Jamaica late June 2007. In Jan 2008. I will be in and around Angamos, Peru (try to find that on a map) on the Javier River shooting the Mayaruna "Cat People" in Peru and Brazil. I will be in Lima for a day or two and can get to Iquitos if neede. If anyone needs footage from these areas please contact me. In any the above countries, I can hit the ground running. Additionally, I will be able to assist in logistics and travel for any other persons needed for the assignment. I shoot with a 110U and necessary ancillary equipment. Thank you Lisa Matthew Overstreet June 12th, 2007, 10:11 PM Hey everyone, I'm producing an internet comedy series that will begin production on Friday, June 29th, and continue every Friday up until the first week of September. I'm wondering if anyone would like to volunteer (this is a no budget endeavor) to be our DP. We're looking to shoot progressive, and don't really want to settle for anything less. We have a web designer doing the site for us, and we already have an editor dedicated to the project. The producer offered a rediculously low price, but if there's anyone who's able to let us use the camera for 150 please contact me thorugh this website. We'll be back on sunday. thanks nick Alessandro Machi June 14th, 2007, 12:04 AM Hello Eugene, Please check www.8cho.com.mx and www.8cho.com.mx/crea. The first one is our website and the second one is a draft of a wedding site we are doing right now. Regards, Rodrigo Medina What annoys me most about your video clips is how smooth they are with no dropped frames. What's wrong with you! I've been told to upgrade my computer to the newest one and then I wouldn't see dropped frames when I view video content on the net, but then I encounter a site like yours and I see no dropped frames when I view your demo reel on my several years old (but rammed up to the max) computer. Why? Charles H. Jones June 14th, 2007, 01:33 PM Hi, I'm looking to create an opening sequence for all of my projects; a signature sequence with my logo. If you are interested, you can email me at charjones00@earthlink.net, or call me at 646 296 5558. Charles Daniel Rudd June 16th, 2007, 03:49 PM My brother and I will be shooting two short films in Muskegon, Michigan from July 15th to the 21st. You can read a little more about the two projects here: www.myspace.com/onestorypictures My brother's handling all the casting, but I'm looking for anyone who is interested in helping with lighting, sound, and camera support. *i'm especially interested in your help if you have some experience in capturing great audio, on location (outdoors). I'll be shooting with the Sony FX1 and a brevis 35mm adapter. We may still have money left to cover your gas, and all crew/cast will be accomodated comfortably (or better) and fed well. Also, if you demonstrate amazing skills or experience, I would consider the possibility of exchanging my soundtracking/scoring services (for your project), for your collaboration on this project. You can listen to some of my work here: www.danielrudd.com But mostly we'll just be bribing all talent with food, West Michigan's beatiful summer climate (and beaches), and the opportunity to express your creativity. It's shaping up to be a great group of talented and likeable contributors. rudd.daniel@gmail.com Andrew Paul June 17th, 2007, 04:10 AM Hi I am experienced camera person with Canon Xl1s and edit in FCP and After Effects. Looking for work to add to my showreel, would love to add working on a music video to my show reel. Live in South of UK, near Gatwick. If you are not making money on it, then I am free. Got anything you need help with, drop me a line. Mat Thompson June 18th, 2007, 06:30 AM Dropped you an email on Friday, just making sure you got it !? Cheers Mat Marty Hudzik June 18th, 2007, 11:36 AM I have a 2 camera wedding that I need to shoot on August 4th. I am the main camera operator and I need a 2nd "B" camera operator with camera to shoot the "safe" shots. I went out and secured a camera man for this job months ago, and then billed the client and told them I would have a 2nd camera operator...but this person proceeded to back out and claims to have already booked that day. The actual wedding and reception are together....starting around 4 and lasting until 10-11ish at the same location. So it would be a 4-5 hours probably. I would take the tapes after the event and pay you for your time based on your skill level. I will be handling all of the editing and such so all I need is a reliable shooter to back me up with safe shots, while I do more creative work. I am shooting this in HD using a Canon XL-H1 so I'd prefer the shooter to also have HD capabilites but will work with you if not. Thanks! Marty Tony Rogers June 19th, 2007, 11:48 PM Editor/FX artist needed for digital short film project. We are looking for someone with a high degree of both editing and/or artistic skill. Preferably located in NC /VA/SC/MD or other Eastern U.S. regions, although we will review all responses. Experience with effects, transitions/cutting, and digital color correction preferred. We prefer an editor/artist that can be open to working in PC realm, (for a specific technical reason), HOWEVER we will be flexible with Mac-only editors if you otherwise fit our interests. We can temporarily provide you with a computer or some additional software if necessary. This is a fun project based upon an art film/ghost story, 14-18 minutes that (hopefully) will still maintain a distinct narrative flow. We will have some designs and concepts already established for you to work with, but most importantly your creative and original ideas and/or additions will be encouraged, welcomed, and always appropriately credited. Therefore this will not be a “rush job”. We don’t have a large budget - pay will range 1000-2000+ based on experience, and level of commitment/interest. However, if you typically demand a higher salary-per-hour for what the project would entail, we will be willing work within your schedule, or discuss compensation further if you have a lot of experience and show a high degree of interest. Please respond with a resume and/or portfolio link to rememberinggarden@yahoo.com and/or call Tony at 336-577-1421 Jasper Blunk June 20th, 2007, 06:44 PM I would post a demo reel (of songs) but I can't get that up right now. I will edit this post in the next week when I upload some songs. Then it will be far more clear where my skills are at. I charge no rate for most indie productions, unless of course, they want to pay me. I can do all genres but I specialize in action/drama/emotional/intense themes. Not so much "happy" music. Thanks. Andrew J Morin June 21st, 2007, 09:12 AM Dude, I actually knelt and prayed for someone like you to turn up here! ;-p Can you emulate John Williams? (hint, hint...) -andy andrewjmorin@hotmail.com Andrew Kasch June 21st, 2007, 09:58 AM I'm shooting a short film this weekend in the Lancaster area of Souther Cali and am looking for an experienced sound person with a boom and directional mic to shoot on the evenings of the 22nd and 23rd. Film is a horror/comedy with cast of cult actors. Lots of fake blood and prosthetics will be used at the scene. Shoot is light-hearted fun with small group of professionals. Film has already been accepted into festivals. If interested, drop me a line at andrewkasch@yahoo.com or call 423.227.3456. Chris Barcellos June 21st, 2007, 11:25 AM Jasper: I'm sending a PM to. I am in Sacramento area. Where in Bay area ? Jessica Gallant June 22nd, 2007, 01:02 AM I'm looking for an experienced documentary cameraman/camerawoman in NYC to shoot an interview with the lead singer of a band for a music based documentary. Ideally the person would be someone with a Sony HDV camera in order to match the footage which has already been shot on Sony HDV cameras. The interview will take place around the end of the month. Bonus points will be give if you've got some knowledge of early UK post-punk (Joy Division, Specimen, Bauhaus, ASF, etc.) though that's not a requirement. :) There is pay, but it's low. If interested, pls. send me an e-mail at tuesday234@adelphia.net Jessica Gallant Chuck Filiatreau June 22nd, 2007, 08:59 AM I have a friend that is shooting a pilot for a new show and is in need of a cameraman in Africa. The shoot would be at his ranch in Namibia and would include some hunting footage and behind the scenes material. He could always find someone to travel with them but if he could find someone close it may make things easier. This is a very special project that i know will touch you in many ways. If you know of someone or are interested, shoot me an e-mail at chuck@johnmichaeloutdoors.com thanks chuck Jasper Blunk June 22nd, 2007, 03:51 PM For some reason I cannot edit my original post.... anyway... here: Although it is not a film/video, here are a few pieces that I composed just a few days ago. The reason I post it is because it could be used for a film–but I composed it originally for a trailer for my most recent film. I have put the folder of pieces up on a file-hosting service. And the folder has been compressed into a StuffIt file. http://www.axifile.com/?2840508 Comments please. Also, please contact me if you wish to use any of these for projects–these pieces has not been registered an official copyright yet so there won't be any problem with that. I would love to have it used in a film. In fact, I won't go off to off-topic but I actually am available for music composing for films–short and feature-length. I charge no rate, unless you would like to pay. I am based in the S.F. Bay Area. Send me a PM if you want. I specialize in what you're hearing (the pieces), action-oriented, emotional, intense, and epic themes. "Happy" music is not my best but I can do anything really. P.S. The way to get the best sound out of this song (or any audio in general) is to use quality earphones or a good sound system. In other words–please don't listen to this on your default computer speakers, or bad ones anyway. *wink* P.P.S. Note that these pieces are just drafts-not articulately worked on yet. P.P.P.S. Also note that these songs end soon. But the track goes on. You will see. Barry Gregg June 22nd, 2007, 04:40 PM Jasper; What about us PC folks. I can't find a way to decompress your .sitx file on my PC. Thanks, Barry Bob Bitteroot June 24th, 2007, 10:19 AM Hi all. I wanted to see what people's opinions were. I have a BA in Journalism/TV Production and worked for a couple years after college at an affiliate station as a Photog. But then left, pursued other interests, lived abroad for a couple years, etc etc. Have been working in non-TV related jobs for a few years now. But now I have the itch again to get back in the game. I miss the creativity!!! I was wondering what people think would be a good idea. Should I try to begin again (at the bottom) as a photog in a small market and "work my way up." Or try to get a job with a production company? Or freelance (not really my preference, at least yet). Right now, my main interest is being a shooter (I'd be perfectly happy being a cameraman for a few years), but in the future would probably like to produce/direct, etc. Working in news would be fine, but I'm also interested in more long-form stuff eventually (Discovery Channel type shows). Any advice is appreciated. Regards. Bob Ken Diewert June 24th, 2007, 09:18 PM Bob, If it's just the creativity you miss, then keep your day job and 'create' on the side. I don't know about Seattle, but in the market I am in, the are no jobs per say for anyone other than freelancers unless you go through the union. In my case, that would mean seriously relocating, and standing in a long line. Originally, I wanted nothing more than to just be a shooter, but I have come to love the challenges of being a one-man production company. I still have a near full-time day job, that pays the bills, but am slowly weaning myself away from the security and into the great unknown. For me the transition is slower as I have a family to feed, but I am absolutely stoked every day because of the excitement, and challenges of video production. I think to make it in this business, you really have to just persevere. My original ideas and plans from a year ago have changed, but my desire to succeed and my faith in myself remains. Good luck! Barry Gregg June 25th, 2007, 07:03 PM Bob; Seattle is a tough market, as you probably know. Not many full time positions, mostly with TV news, and they want shooters with a couple years experience. Freelance is really the only way to break into the market here. If it is at all possible to have some flexible hours at the real job, stick with it and see what you can find for freelance gigs. Bob Bitteroot June 25th, 2007, 08:30 PM Thanks for the advice. My day job is a teacher so hopefully I can start using summers, etc. to really start working at it. For someone starting from almost nowhere, what's the best way to start freelancing? Gabe Strong June 25th, 2007, 11:48 PM I did the same thing as you. Former news photog with broadcast/journalism degree. Working for local TV stations. The pay sucked, the work was cool. Bought some gear, did a few TV spots on the side to suppliment my meager income. But kept my steady job because I didn't want to strike out into the "great unknown" without security (I am married with two kids.) My employer found out I was doing TV spots on the side and saw it as 'competition' for their stations production. Long and short of it was they demanded I stop, I told them they couldn't control what I did in my free time with my own gear (maybe not the smartest move ever) and they fired me. Because it started as a 4 month gig that they ended up asking me to please stay on and work for them, and because they never had any problems with me before this, I am fairly certain why they got rid of me. It forced me to get serious about my production company and may be one thing that pushed me into being very marginally successful. One of my favorite moments now is when I take clients from them....(I know it's petty.) If you do end up getting into it, I'd recommend diversifying. Just like when investing money, you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. What happens if the wedding market just sucks one year? Or if no one does TV spots? I pretty much do everything related to multimedia that I can do....TV commercials, weddings, sports, events, video news releases/marketing, Freelance news coverage, DVD authoring, website building with emphasis on video for the web, live cam for conventions, pretty much anything I can get my hands in. I don't make much, but probably a little more than I did as a full time news photog, and I have a lot more time off to spend with my kids (average work of one or two days a week.). I actually was pretty lucky. If you have any questions, just ask and I'll do my best to help. |
