My 15 inch Sony CRT monitor is about to die, so I've been looking for a replacement. I have yet to see a 17-20 inch LCD monitor in the $300-600 range that gives the resolution of my good ol' CRT unit. Any suggestions?

I just got a nice 20" widescreen LCD from Futureshop on sale for.. $299 or $399 Canadian. I used to have a 21" CRT, but I have not looked back from this purchase for a second.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a good sale on at a store near you in the US, especially for $600.

Thanks for the replies, but the question was not about the availability of reasonably priced monitors. Of course, there are scads of them out there. I'm trying to find one with superior image resolution. In the ones I have seen, for example, small print is pixellated. CRT monitors don't do that.

Steve, it is very important that LCD monitors run at their native resolution. The most common problem seems to be people who run at other "standard" resolutions, since this causes the image to be resized for display. My desktop has dual 1600x1200 21" monitors and they are tack sharp. If I reduce the resolution to 1280x1024, they look horrible. 800x600 looks fine, since you don't get any funny resizing artifacts.

One note, just be careful when adjusting color with an LCD, since color changes slightly with viewing angle...

Stick with CRT's - Sure there hotter and weigh more but they kick butt. I recently went back to CRT after being on LCD for 2 years and I'm super happy with the quality. Plus I got two 19 inch monitors made by Dell for $30 a piece from CraigsList.org - LCD still can't compete with CRT's quality, refresh rates. Also they handle any resolution pretty well. Only reason to go LCD is for space.
