Hi all..

I am bitterly sad to report that my XL1s has died upon picking it up today!!! I was so careful to unpack the viewfinder, lens, and microphone and mount them on the camera. As soon as I turned the switch to GREEN mode... it turned on for 3 secs and switched itself back off!!! Any record mode will do this. Even If i switch to using the DC coupler it displayed this strange behaviour.

The camera works perfectly with pre-recorded material. I was able to play back some DV footage i previously had in VCR mode...

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I've just switch from my VX2000e thinking that the XL1s would be very reliable and solid. Now my thoughts have completly changed...

Back to the shop tomorrow to get it exchanged for a new one.. cross your fingers for me please!!!

Regards,

Mr Unhappy :*(

I feel your pain. How disappointing. Hope your luck changes.

Ken,

This is off the subject...and I apologize for that...but I've seen your name quite a bit here and just wondered if you are "the" Ken Tanaka? Of "Hi No Tori" fame?

John

P.S. Chris...I promise to be a good boy from here on...no more off subject posts!

Although when I was in college I think I was caught a bit "high" with no toga...but I really didn't get much fame for it.

What is Hi No Tori, John. You've piqued my curiosity.

Ah...toga parties! Haven't thought of those in a long time. Those were the days, eh?

I just wondered about your name since there are actually three "Ken Tanakas" that acheived some level of "fame" in the entertainment biz. Two are actors (A younger one who was in the old Godzilla, or "Gojira," movies and also "Hi No Tori," which translates to "The Firebird" or "Phoenix." An older one in movies in the 50s and 60s), and another is an art director who was involved in a couple of recent movies.

Anyway...I know how it goes to have a "famous" name. Er...maybe "famous" is too extreme a word in my case. When people recognize my name it tells me one thing about them...that they stayed awake in their Poli Sci or philosophy classes on the day when my name was mentioned.

...or your "Two Treatises of Government"?

I must say that you're writing very well for a man nearly...370 years old!

Full disclosure: Naw, I was one of the students sleeping during those lectures. Google can make anyone look far more learned than they are.

"Ken Tanaka Mystery Series." Pretty cool!

Books, Godzilla films...I'd put 'em all on my resume if I were you. Who'd know?
