So what's the latest on the CineForm tools to convert everything to QuickTime files to cut in Final Cut Pro? BTW, will we need Premiere to capture everything while shooting?
Thanks,
heath

View Full Version : Any update on the tools to go Apple QuickTime? Heath McKnight July 16th, 2006, 09:13 AM So what's the latest on the CineForm tools to convert everything to QuickTime files to cut in Final Cut Pro? BTW, will we need Premiere to capture everything while shooting? Thanks, heath Ari Presler July 16th, 2006, 11:05 AM If you record today in .avi you will be able to rewrap the RAW data into .mov. As this process is just changing the container and not changing the video content it is as quick as a file copy. We will make an official announcement when full QT support is ready. We do not require Premier to capture/record. You can playback your footage (today they are avi) directly in Windows Media Player. The same file is both your proxy and your full res content. Heath McKnight July 16th, 2006, 12:02 PM Thanks, Ari. I've been hearing a lot of questions in the non-Internet world in that regard. heath David Taylor July 16th, 2006, 03:23 PM Just to give you some sense that there's meat behind this, we've been (internally) playing back CineForm Intermediate files with an MOV wrapper on MacOS for a while now. There are still a lot of threading, QT, MacOS, and FCP optimizations to do before any Alpha code can leave the house, but it's definitely making progress.... Heath McKnight July 16th, 2006, 03:26 PM Excellent, thanks David. Glad to see you visiting and posting on our boards! heath Jason Rodriguez July 16th, 2006, 04:11 PM Also one note to clear up what Ari said, once the QT tools are available, we will also have the ability to record *directly* to QT, so you won't have to-go through any re-wrapping process . . . you can record directly to QT and then import into Final Cut or any other QT compatible application. Heath McKnight July 16th, 2006, 08:44 PM Jason, do I need a PC (or an Intel Mac that boots up into Windows) or a Mac with OSX? heath David Taylor July 16th, 2006, 08:49 PM Heath, for the forseeable future you'll need a PC, or else a Mac with Bootcamp that is the right performance. At some point in the not too distant future the user will select whether the Windows machine should wrap the CineForm RAW files at record time with either AVI or QT. |
