I'm planning to buy a rode video mic for my hc1 and I'm looking for mounting options.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you cannot attach a non sony mike to the hot shoe of the hc1.

You'll need to craft a little adaptor, like this:

Have you made one of these mounts yet. It doesn't seem to be too difficult. I should've spent the extra $$ for the A1.

Simpler easier way is to use a Bescor VB-50 arm :

works perfectly and gives less tapenoise too due to increased distance from mic to tapeunit.

Check out my HC1 with Rode VideoMic!

I made an adapter basically similar to the above mentioned link by Brian.
It was not very hard to make just takes a little time and adjustment to get it perfect.
I typically just always leave the adapter on the camera as if it where a permanant piece of the camera.

It works great and looks pro! I use it with a Beachtek DXA-2s and a bottome loading tape adapter that is just awesome.

Follow the directions on the above mentioned link and it will work great! and you'll like the look it adds to the camera.

Or you can always go the route that Stu suggested. I have a similar shoe adapter but use it for a Sony 10w/20w light I have since that type of mount has stronger support for the much heavier light with battery.

I have the HC1 with the Rode Videomic and the Bescor adapter. But I must say I havent been using the adapter bec the videomic picks up the camera motor noise if I have it that close! I have been using a 3 metre 3.5mm cord and just plugging it into the camera and videomic and then placing the mic well away from the cam... works great.
