is it okay for me to transfer my dvcam tape to my computer through my old JVC minidv camcorder?

also, my JVC keeps telling me it needs a head cleaning even though I just ran one three times..could this damage my dvcam tape that I am playing in there?

I'd be surprised your JVC will play DVCam format tapes. That may be why it wants you to clean the heads.
