I just got back from the Canada day fireworks celebration. Got some great footage, or at least I potentially did. The camera locked up when I pushed the button to stop recording. A review in Windows and on cam shows only my pics from yesterday. Anyone have experience recovering movie files, or do I chalk this up to not formatting the new card in cam before my session?

ARGH.... try san disk they have a tool which I have been able to use, search for files with the unformatted option.
