I love my HD100. Just thought I would get that in at the start!

I was wondering whether it is better to use the onboard features of the camera to get a better cinema or filmic look or to shoot clean and do the tricks in the edit.

I would appreciate any advice on which is best.

Opinions vary.

Some say that you should really color correct as much as possible in post when you're looking at all your footage at once, and should use in-camera settings that give you the greatest amount of latitude.

Others say that due to HDV's compression you inherently have the most latitude in the camera itself when you're shooting, and should do as much of your look as possible in-camera to avoid artifacts.

I'd say experiment and see how well each method works for you. Personally, I'm a fan of doing it in-camera, mostly due to my background in live broadcasting and the whole mindset of getting it all in one go. However, like pretty much everything in video, your mileage may vary. I know Paolo Ciccone's gonna chime in on this since he's designed the "Truecolor" camera settings in order to give you tons of latitude for post color correction.
