I ran across a link on Panasonic's website for a card formatter to format SD cards before they can be used in the HVX. I hadn't seen anything about that before and, true to form, the only software available is for Windows. The web instructions lead one to believe that an SD card can't be used off-the-shelf in the HVX. I haven't even tested that function yet, and it's not coming up in a forum search. Anyone (Robert? Barry?) know about that one?

I just format it in the HVX. There's an option in the menus.

That application will let you format it in a PC if you want, but as Scott points out, you can also format it in the camera. There are two places you can do that, either from the "card functions" menu in camera mode, or from the P2 menu in MCR mode.

Thanks, guys. I hadn't bought an SD card yet, so I hadn't looked for those menu functions. The Panasonic web link to the formatter software just says that you can't use an off-the-shelf SD card in the HVX, without mentioning that you CAN format it in-camera. Really misleading.
