View Full Version : LANC Focus/Iris Controller?

Hi All!
I've been using a Z1 since its release with a Cobracrane II+ on lit sets where no iris change was needed. Now I'm shooting nature with the same set up and encountering birds and deer that just won't do blocked scenes or meet taped marks. (Yeah, and I thought actors were bad at this.) These critters actually lack the courtesy of taking direction and posing for best lighting effect! I trust you'll sympathize...

Since the Sony IR remote requires a sight line to the Z1's receptor, (not happening when the crane is shrouded in trees, 14' in the air and pointing down,) my salvation would be a Z1-friendly Varizoom PFI or Bebob Foxi. Anyone out there have or know of one they can recommend?

Many thanks!

Chris ~

you can also modify the remote control by extending wire of the IR LED to be closer from the camera.

While I'd prefer single-hand operation of crane and focus, this is a terrific idea - Thanks.

I'm wondering if Sony has left iris out of the Z1's LANC control abilities because I've seen the previously mentioned Bebob and Varizoom focus/iris controls for Pannys for some time, but none for Sony.

Then, of course, there's the Sony issue of slow zoom, which only the on-camera rocker can achieve... still!

Good suggestion, Giroud. Thanks again!
